On Tuesday, Columbia University’s President Shafik issued a stern ultimatum to anti-Israel student protesters, setting a midnight deadline for the dismantling of their encampment, with the threat of “alternate options” looming should they fail to comply.
🎓 Academia. The ongoing protests have disrupted campus life, leading to the cancellation of in-person classes and a call for a “reset” as tensions rise.
🇵🇸 Defiance. But surprise, the protestors refused to disband.
Despite her firm stance, a video of Columbia University President Dr. Shafik has resurfaced online, garnering attention due to her comments that appear to sympathize with 9/11 terrorists.👇

Senate passes package

🌐 Global Support.
Just last Saturday, the US House approved bills that allocated billions in aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan.
By Tuesday, these bills had been pushed through by the Senate to President Biden’s desk, demonstrating a significant level of bipartisan agreement.
📱 TikTok. Included in the package is also a controversial measure that could force the sale of TikTok by its Chinese parent company ByteDance, or face a national ban.
🏛️ Political Play. The aid package has been at the center of GOP infighting, with House Republicans threatening leadership over its passage.

Ukraine defies the US
Ukraine’s bold overnight drone strikes on Russian oil refineries have sparked a fiery geopolitical standoff, despite stern warnings from the US.
🔥 Conflict. Ukraine defied US cautions and launched drone attacks on Russian oil facilities, igniting fires and escalating tensions.
🛡️ Defense. Russia’s air defenses intercepted several drones, but the strikes caused fires in civilian areas and damaged private buildings.
💥 Impact. These strikes aim to weaken Russia’s war effort by targeting its oil exports, which remain significant despite Western sanctions.

Iran
Iran threatens Israel (again)

During his visit to Pakistan, Iranian President Raisi threatened Israel, saying that an attack on Iranian soil “could result in nothing being left of the Zionist regime.”
But wait… Didn’t Israel just attack Iran?
🕊️ Peace. Despite the recent skirmishes, both Iran and Israel seem to be exercising restraint.
Iran downplayed an explosion in Isfahan and avoided direct retaliation, while Israel has not officially acknowledged the counterstrike.
🤝 Alliance. Raisi’s visit to Pakistan aims to strengthen trade and mend ties, intending to increase trade with neighboring nations to $10 billion annually.

Russia
Bribery scandal unfolds

🔍 Investigation. Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov has been detained on suspicion of bribery, with the case drawing attention amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine.
🏛️ Profile. Ivanov, responsible for military property and construction, allegedly led a lavish lifestyle and was sanctioned by the US and EU in 2022.
🚧 Mariupol Projects. He managed construction in Mariupol, Ukraine, a city devastated by Russian forces since the 2022 invasion.
