Addressing "Biden the beer czar" rules

Hi Global Recap readers,
I’ve been seeing headlines similar to the following being tossed around on the internet:
Joe Biden the “Beer Czar” to limit Americans to two beers a week.
🤢 This is one of the most disgustingly misleading headlines I’ve ever read. This is a twisted version of a rumor that the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism might change its guidelines from:
2 drinks/day ➡️ 2 drinks/week.
These are guidelines, not laws. And no, Joe Biden is not an evil socialist “beer-czar” trying to limit how many beers you can have per day by law. These clickbait headlines are just trying to get you drunk on outrage.

🌐 Now, let’s get into today’s news.
📈 Top News

🇨🇴 Colombians had enough. Thousands of Colombians are taking to the streets to protest President Gustavo Petro’s recent gasoline price hike. The leftist government says it needs to eliminate subsidies to pay debts and fund social programs, but the people are not having it.

🚀 North Korea’s rocket launch was a dud, but it sparked a different kind of fireworks. South Korea, the U.S., and Japan flexed their military muscles in a joint missile defense exercise south of Jeju Island. The drill was a show of force in response to North Korea’s failed attempt to launch a military spy satellite.

That’s Kim’s daughter next to him.
🔥 Kim threatens to nuke. Wait, didn’t I write this before?
The North Korean dictator is fuming at the U.S. and its allies for holding joint naval drills near his turf. He claims his navy is ready to nuke anyone who messes with him.
Even after botching two satellite launches, Kim seems to be confident it can nuke the U.S. Bluffing or not?

🇬🇹 Guatemala’s president-elect loses his party. Bernardo Arévalo’s party, Semilla, has been suspended pending an investigation. Arévalo calls it “illegal political persecution,” while the electoral authority suspects the party broke some rules when it was formed in 2018.
🐟 Japan vs China: Seafood dispute. Japan is furious with China for banning its seafood over the Fukushima water release. Japan says it will take China to the World Trade Organization if diplomacy fails.

Pakistan
Imran Khan Given a Get-Out-of-Jail Card

👑 Former PM Khan gets a break. He was sentenced to three years in prison for corruption, but now the Islamabad High Court has given him a get-out-of-jail-free card by suspending his conviction and granting him bail. But don’t get too excited, he still has dozens of other charges to deal with.
💨 Not so fast. Despite his graft conviction being suspended, he is still in prison because of another charge - leaking classified state secrets. His lawyers are furious, calling this a “manipulation of justice.”
🏏 Khan’s popularity remains high. Despite his legal troubles, Khan’s supporters are not giving up on him. His supporters are hopeful that this ruling will allow Khan to contest the upcoming elections. They see him as a victim of a political conspiracy by the military and the ruling coalition.
🗳️ Election delay drama continues. Pakistan’s general election, which was supposed to be held by November this year, is likely to be postponed until early 2024. The reason? The election commission needs four months to “redraw the constituencies” based on the latest census data. This delay has caused controversy and sparked protests from opposition parties who accuse the government of trying to cling to power.
👥 New caretaker government takes charge. After the dissolution of parliament earlier this month, a caretaker government led by interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has been sworn in. Its main priority is to stabilize the economy, which is struggling with inflation and debt.

Back at it again! The results are in for yesterday’s poll on whether the tinfoil hat theory regarding the U.S.’s knowledge of Prigozhin’s “accident” has you convinced. Drumroll, please…🥁
Convinced: 34%
Maybe: 42%
Too much tinfoil: 24%
Many of you thought the theory was a bit too loose, but you still were convinced of the U.S. espionage abilities. One of you even told me to give you back your tinfoil hat.

Thank you for your great replies again!
