Assassination Files: Being Released

Hi Global Recap readers,
Before Trump took office, many expected he’d prioritize his legacy in his second term by delivering on promises and personal goals—after all, it’s his final shot.
While history’s judgment on his presidency remains to be seen, he’s currently wielding his pen like a wand, signing a flurry of executive orders.
His latest move? Go full transparency. 👇️
🤔 Thoughts: I’m not sure if his actions—like suspending DEI programs and prioritizing deportations, seen as politically “right” by many—stem from a global shift toward conservatism or if he’s just speeding up the trend.

Trump Orders Release
of Assassination Files
Today, President Trump has signed an executive order to declassify any remaining files related to the assassinations of:
President John F. Kennedy,
Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This move has been long-awaited by many who have been waiting for "decades" to access these classified documents.
🤔 What will we find? Right now, countless theories swirl around the “real culprit” behind President Kennedy’s assassination. Some believe the CIA was involved for various reasons.
Releasing the Files
Trump's executive order instructs the government to release all files related to these high-profile assassinations.
After a partial release of JFK files in 2022, the National Archives still has around 5 million pages related to the assassination that have not been made public.
This includes 3,000 documents that have never been released and 30,000 that were previously released with redactions.
Handing Over the Pen
As a symbolic gesture, Trump had his aide give the pen used to sign the order to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of the late senator.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is Trump's nominee to run the Department of Health and Human Services.
A Long-Awaited Move
During his first term in 2017, Trump had promised that he would release the remaining JFK files, but not all were made public at the time.
Back in 1992, Congress required all assassination records to be released within 25 years—a deadline that's long overdue.
Why? In a recent interview, he mentioned that Mike Pompeo, the then Secretary of State, had advised against releasing them.
Redaction
However, skeptics believe the released documents will look something like this:

ICC Seeks
Taliban Leaders’ Arrest

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is seeking arrest warrants for two senior Taliban leaders in Afghanistan for their crimes against Afghan women and girls.
Arrest Warrants Issued
The ICC is going after the big fish.
The warrants target supreme spiritual leader Haibatullah Akhundzada and Chief Justice Abdul Hakim Haqqani.
Both are accused of persecuting women and girls, with crimes dating back to at least August 15, 2021, when the Taliban took over Kabul.
Persecution Details
The charges are serious and specific.
The persecution includes restrictions on schooling, work, and general independence for women and girls.
The Taliban's interpretation of Islamic sharia law is cited as a justification for these human rights abuses.
✍🏻 Context: Remember them banning Afghan women from having their voices heard in public?
Some of their restrictions include:
• Banned from public parks, gyms, and baths, and must adhere to a strict dress code.
• Barred from secondary education.
• Unable to travel without a male chaperone or look a man in the eye unless related by blood or marriage.
ICC's Commitment
The ICC is doubling down on its commitment to gender-based crimes.
Prosecutor Karim Khan emphasized that the Taliban's actions are unacceptable and that the ICC is committed to pursuing accountability.
The warrants, if issued, could erode the Taliban's international legitimacy.
Court's Challenges
The ICC is facing its own set of challenges.
The court is dealing with an existential crisis, including economic sanctions from the US and a warrant from Russia for ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan.
Despite these issues, the ICC remains focused on its mission to prosecute war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and aggression.
Taliban’s History
Akhundzada and Haqqani have long histories with the Taliban.
Akhundzada became the Taliban’s supreme commander in 2016 and fought against the Soviet military in the 1980s.
Haqqani was a close associate of Taliban founder Mullah Omar and negotiated with US representatives in 2020.

Milei Declares War on Woke
Argentina’s President Javier Milei has declared an all-out war on “wokeism” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He believes that defeating this “mental virus” is essential for global progress.
Wokeism: The Great Epidemic
Milei calls wokeism the “cancer of our time” that must be eradicated.
He claims it has “colonized” key institutions, including political parties, governments, NGOs, universities, and media outlets.
According to Milei, until this ideology is removed, Western civilization cannot return to its pioneering spirit.
Allies in the Fight
Recently, Milei has found a few allies in his “anti-woke crusade.”
He mentions Elon Musk, Giorgia Meloni, Nayib Bukele, Viktor Orban, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Donald Trump as his supporters.
These leaders, according to Milei, are forming international alliances to combat wokeism.
Small Government and Liberty
Milei advocates for small government and liberty.
He calls for the removal of bureaucratic elites and the culling of gender equality policies.
Milei attacks collectivist economics and wealth redistribution, claiming socialism has “murdered 100 million people.”

Trump's Davos Ultimatum
Also at Davos, Speaking via video from the White House on January 23, 2025, President Trump promised lower taxes for those who bring manufacturing to the US and threatened tariffs for those who don't.
Carrot-and-Stick
Trump's message was clear: invest in the US or face consequences.
He promised some of the lowest taxes on earth for companies that manufacture in the US.
For those who don't, he threatened tariffs that could direct hundreds of billions, even trillions, of dollars into the US treasury.
EU Open to US Deals

European Commissioner for Trade and Executive Vice President of the European Commission for An Economy that Works for People Valdis Dombrovskis.
And the thing is, this tactic seems to be working (to a degree).
On Thursday, EU’s top economy official said that the EU is ready to chat about buying energy and arms from the United States to avoid the tariffs President Donald Trump has threatened.
And this deal isn’t just one-sided.
In fact, US liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports have been crucial since Russia cut off most gas supplies to Europe in 2022.
The US is now the EU's largest LNG supplier.
Saudi Investment
Other than that, Trump highlighted potential investments from Saudi Arabia.
He mentioned a conversation with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who expressed interest in investing $600 billion in the US.
Trump cheekily suggested increasing that amount to $1 trillion, drawing laughter from the Davos crowd.
Ending the Russia-Ukraine War
Trump also reiterated his commitment to ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
He expressed a desire to meet with President Putin soon to stop the war, calling it "horrible."
Trump blamed the OPEC+ alliance for keeping oil prices high, which he believes fuels Moscow's economy.
