Biden Gets Sued

Hi Global Recap readers,
In America, anything goes. Even suing the leader of the free world and his officials for letting a “genocide” happen in Gaza.
Plausible?
🌐 Around the world:
Nepal bans TikTok.
US and China to agree on fentanyl trade crackdown.
Hamas offers a hostage swap for a truce.
Argentina’s skyrocketing inflation.
Biden gets sued.
Let’s get into today’s news.

🚫 Nepal Bans TikTok

Nepal’s government has decided to immediately ban the popular social media app TikTok, citing its negative impact on “social harmony.”
The app, owned by China’s ByteDance, has been accused of spreading illegal content and disinformation in many countries.

💊 US-China Fentanyl Deal

"Rainbow Fentanyl" – a deadly cocktail of fentanyl infused with vibrant dyes, disguised as colorful pills.
The US and China are on the brink of a landmark deal to restrict the export of chemicals used in the production of fentanyl, a lethal synthetic opioid. This pivotal agreement is set to be unveiled at the upcoming summit between Biden and Xi in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The primary objective: To choke off the supply of precursor materials to Mexico, the main producer of fentanyl.

🚀 Hamas Offers Hostage Swap for Truce

Hamas says it will free 70 Israeli hostages, mostly women, and children.
In exchange: Israel needs to agree to a five-day ceasefire in Gaza.
The deal was proposed by Qatari mediators, who helped release four hostages last month. Israel has not accepted the offer yet.

🏦 Argentina’s Inflation Nightmare

A staggering 143% inflation rate has hit Argentina, the worst in years. The nation’s economy is under the microscope as a pivotal presidential runoff vote looms coming Sunday.
But wait for this. Analysts polled by Argentina’s central bank raised their estimate for annual inflation for this year to 185.0%. This is a significant increase from the previous estimates.
Solution? One candidate wants to ditch the peso and “dynamite” the central bank. The other says that’s crazy.

Biden Gets Sued

👩⚖️ Biden Sued for Complicity in Genocide. On Monday, a group of Palestinians and Americans filed a lawsuit against US President Biden and his top officials for failing to prevent Israel’s “crimes of genocide” in Gaza.
🇺🇸 US Support for Israel’s Bombing Campaign. The lawsuit accuses Biden, Secretary of State Blinken, and Secretary of Defense Austin of providing “unconditional financial and diplomatic support” to Israel, despite evidence of its policies directed at inflicting mass harm to the Palestinian population in Gaza. The lawsuit cites statements by Israeli officials that show their disregard for international law and human rights.
One such example:
“We are striking our enemies with unprecedented might. (…) I emphasize that this is only the beginning.”
🇺🇸 US Complicity and Failure to Prevent. The lawsuit also alleges that the US has breached its duty under international law to prevent genocide.
It says the US has:
opposed a ceasefire,
vetoed UN resolutions, and
prepared to send $14 billion in aid to Israel, despite the warnings of human rights experts and the protests of millions of people.
👩⚖️ The Plaintiffs and Their Demands.
The plaintiffs include:
Palestinian human rights organizations,
Gaza residents, and
US citizens with family members affected by the war.
They are represented by the Center for Constitutional Rights, a US-based nonprofit. They are asking the court to stop the US from aiding Israel and to hold the US officials accountable for their complicity in “genocide.”
