Billionaire bailed
Hi Global Recap readers,
The last two polls we conducted were fire 🔥, and your insightful comments explaining your positions added real depth to the conversation. Thank you.
However, I want to address a common thread in yesterday’s poll on the question:
“Should social media CEOs be held accountable for not removing content the government considers inappropriate?”
📊 POLL
“Brief” Response

Many of you who voted Yes mentioned the following points:
Social media platforms have done more harm than good.
Freedom of speech doesn’t give someone the right to lie and mislead.
Platforms that promote misinformation, especially against reputable health institutions, should be punished.
Personally, I agree that social media has caused irreversible damage to society, largely due to its most positive impact: the rapid exchange of information. It’s a double-edged sword.
But on the second point: I’m torn. While lying and misleading are harmful, should a CEO be punished because users on their platform behave as they do in real life? For example, I know people who lie and mislead all the time. Should I call the cops on them? Or should their parents be arrested for facilitating such a person to grow up in their household?
As for the third point: Platforms don’t typically “actively promote” disinformation over official sources. If false information trends more, it’s often because it’s more popular, and algorithms—whether on YouTube or X—prioritize content that keeps users engaged longer, driving ad revenue. It’s all about the money.
To prevent such content from spreading, platforms would need to suppress it, which would be active censorship.
Freedom of speech exists to allow the free exchange of ideas, letting people decide for themselves what’s true or false—not having it dictated by a third party.
This is similar to what we are facilitating here now. Imagine if your comments were suppressed because they did not align with the mainstream way of thinking.
If beliefs are dictated, it’s a form of indoctrination.
AND Indoctrination tends to lead to tyranny or be a symptom of it.
So, what’s the best solution and deterrent? Education.
When people fall for easily debunkable lies, it’s often because they haven’t been taught to verify sources or to take the time to think through their ideas before posting half-baked first impressions online as if they’re fully formed ideas.
TL;DR: This is a highly complex issue, but I wanted to share my thoughts.
I cannot thank you enough for your valuable insights. 🙏
The only reason we can have this conversation is that so many of you, our readers, participate in the polls. I look forward to further discussions on more interesting and divisive topics!

Although still a serious story, this one involves less… violence.
A 4-year-old boy accidentally smashed a 3,500-year-old Bronze Age jar at the Hecht Museum in Haifa, Israel. The museum responded with understanding and plans to restore the artifact.
This is every parent’s nightmare…
The Incident
The jar, dating back to 2200-1500 BC, was fully intact until the accident.
The boy’s father, Alex, was shocked and initially in disbelief.
The jar fell after the boy pulled it slightly out of curiosity.
Museum’s Response
The museum handled the situation with empathy.
The museum director, Inbal Rivlin, emphasized it was an accident.
The jar was displayed without barriers to make artifacts accessible.
The museum will continue this practice despite the incident.

This is what they looked like before the accident.

Efforts are underway to repair the jar.
A conservation specialist has been selected for the restoration.
The jar will be returned to its place soon.

🇾🇪 YEMEN
Red Sea Oil Spill Risk
International shipping authorities are on high alert after an attack on the Greek-flagged MV Delta Sounion, which is now leaking oil into the Red Sea.
Attack on Tanker
The MV Delta Sounion was attacked by the Iran-aligned Houthis on August 21.
The tanker was carrying about a million barrels of crude oil.
It has been on fire since August 23 and is leaking oil.
The crew, consisting of two Russians and 23 Filipinos, has been evacuated.
Environmental Hazard
The situation poses a significant environmental threat.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is extremely concerned about the potential oil spill.
The ship is currently immobilized, presenting both a navigational and environmental hazard.
The spill could cause extensive damage to the Red Sea region.
Historical Context
This isn’t the first time the Red Sea has faced such threats.
The FSO Safer tanker moored off the Hodeidah governorate, posed a similar risk in 2021 and 2020.
The oil from the Safer was eventually offloaded in August 2023 to prevent a disaster.
The Houthis have been attacking in solidarity with Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas war.
Houthis Truce Agreement
That being said, Iran’s mission to the UN announced that Yemen’s Houthi group has now agreed to a temporary truce to allow rescue operations for a damaged oil tanker in the Red Sea.
The truce allows tugboats and rescue ships to reach the Greek-flagged oil tanker Sounion.
