Bus Stop Terrorist

Hi Global Recap readers,

The last time a terror attack occurred in Israel, carried out by a Palestinian from the West Bank, we asked, “Who benefits from the war between Israel and Hamas continuing?”

It might just be selective attention, but it certainly feels like these terror attacks are becoming more frequent during a ceasefire and negotiations.

What do you think? 👇️

  • A 17-year-old girl is fighting for her life with serious head and limb injuries.

This attack follows a series of bus explosions near Tel Aviv a week earlier.

  • Three empty buses exploded in Bat Yam and Holon, with no casualties reported.

🇹🇭 THAILAND
Uyghurs Deported to China

On February 27, 2025, Thai authorities reported that they’d deported at least 40 Uyghur men back to China after more than a decade in detention, sparking international outrage and concerns over human rights violations.

Just to be clear—that international outrage? It wasn’t because Thailand kept them locked up for over a decade. It was because they released them.

Deportation Details

  • The men had been detained in Thailand for over ten years.

  • They faced imprisonment and possible death in China.

International Reactions

The deportation has drawn sharp criticism from various international bodies and officials.

  • UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk called it “a clear violation of international human rights laws and standards.”

  • US Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the deportation “in the strongest possible terms.”

Propaganda

And check out the photo above—released by the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok. It supposedly shows a Uyghur man joyfully reuniting with his family.

But if you’re wondering why people are outraged over this deportation, here’s the context:

  • China has a well-documented history of oppressing Uyghurs.

  • Since 2017, they’ve set up so-called “re-education camps,” detaining over a million Uyghurs.

  • Leaked documents suggest Uyghur women have also been subjected to forced sterilizations.

So yeah, that’s why this isn’t just a simple homecoming.

Thai Government's Stance

Thai officials claimed that the men voluntarily returned to China after being shown a written agreement.

  • Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai stated that China assured the men wouldn’t face penalties or harm.

  • The men were reportedly flown to Xinjiang province, the heartland of China’s Uyghur population.

✏️ Context: But hold on—what’s this? The Uyghur men recently made a public appeal, saying they were terrified of being sent back to China because they may even die. Kind of makes that “happy reunion” photo look a lot more suspicious, doesn’t it?

Historical Context

This isn’t the first time Thailand has deported Uyghurs to China, and the conditions in detention have been harsh.

  • In 2015, Thailand deported 109 Uyghurs to China, prompting international outcry.

  • Since then, five Uyghurs have died in Thai detention, including two children.

🇺🇸 UNITED STATES
Trump Meets Starmer

Today, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with US President Donald Trump in Washington.

The timing of this meeting is interesting, coming just one day before President Trump is scheduled to meet with President Zelenskyy at the White House.

Charm Offensive

Starmer arrived at the White House with a letter from King Charles inviting Trump for a second state visit. Trump called the US-UK relationship “tremendous” and praised King Charles as “a really great gentleman.”

Zelenskyy’s Allies

Strains between Zelenskyy and Trump are evident, with Trump calling Zelenskyy a “dictator without elections.”

Here’s an interesting response President Trump gave when a reporter asked him about calling President Zelenskyy a "dictator":

Chagos Islands Win

Trump supported a plan for the UK to cede control over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius but lease them back for strategic use.

  • The proposal has drawn criticism, with many concerned that even with a leaseback arrangement, it could reduce Western military influence in the Indian Ocean, potentially allowing China to step in. Additionally, Mauritius has strong economic ties with China.

  • Nonetheless, Trump’s support is seen as an early diplomatic win for Starmer.

Defense Spending Pledge

Starmer pledged to raise UK defense spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027 and 3% by 2035.

  • This is the “biggest sustained increase in defense spending since the end of the cold war.”

  • Starmer aims to convince Trump that supporting Ukraine and NATO is a good deal.

🇰🇵 NORTH KOREA
North Korea Sends
Troops to Russia

North Korea has sent even more soldiers to Russia, redeploying them to the front lines in the western Kursk region, according to South Korea's intelligence agency.

Deployment Details

South Korea's intelligence agency reported that North Korea had sent additional troops to Russia.

  • The exact number of extra troops is unknown, but it's believed to be at least 1,000.

  • North Korean troops have been redeployed to the front line in Kursk after a month-long lull.

  • Neither Moscow nor Pyongyang have confirmed the new deployment. But considering there are already videos of North Korean troops captured from the frontlines in the last round, it’s not a stretch to assume they’re back for another.

Starmer’s Ready Too

What do you make of this news? Is Kim insane for throwing his own people into the fire?

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stood firm at the White House today, declaring he's ready to “put boots on the ground and planes in the air” to help secure peace in the region.

🤔 Thoughts: Call me a skeptic, but I don’t buy that Starmer is actually planning to send troops to Ukraine. To me, it seems like he's just taking a tough stance to show Putin they’re prepared if it comes down to it.

The political fallout from such a move would be massive, and Starmer knows that.

Putin definitely does too.

Heavy Losses

North Korea has suffered significant losses since its troops were first deployed to help Russia in its war with Ukraine.

  • In January, Western officials estimated that at least 1,000 of the 11,000 troops sent from North Korea had been killed in the past three months.

  • Ukrainian special forces fighting in Kursk reported not seeing any North Korean troops for weeks.
