🇺🇸 UNITED STATES
Chinese Spy Arrested in NY

Yuanjun Tang
Federal prosecutors have arrested Yuanjun Tang, a former democracy activist and Chinese dissident living in the US, for allegedly spying on pro-democracy groups for China’s intelligence agency.
Tang’s Background
Tang Yuanjun, a former democracy activist, swam to Taiwan over 20 years ago and was granted political asylum by the US.
He participated in China’s 1989 democracy movement and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Tang was released after eight years and continued advocating for democracy in China.
He was granted asylum in the US and lived in New York City.
Charges and Allegations
Tang has been charged with acting as an agent for China from 2018 to 2023.
He allegedly completed tasks for China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS).
Tang provided information on US-based Chinese democracy activists and dissidents.
He is accused of lying to the FBI about his communications with his MSS handler.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Tang was arrested and is scheduled to appear before a district judge.
The FBI claims he lied about access to an email account used for communication with MSS.
Beijing’s foreign ministry stated they were “not familiar with the specifics” of the case.

🇮🇱 ISRAEL
Hezbollah Cell Eliminated

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they successfully identified and eliminated a Hezbollah terrorist cell that fired rockets toward northern Israel.
Hezbollah Cell Targeted
The IDF targeted a Hezbollah cell in southern Lebanon.
The cell was responsible for firing rockets towards the area of Zar’it in northern Israel.
The terrorists were operating from a structure in Shikhin, which was destroyed by the Israel Air Force (IAF).
Additional Strikes
The IAF conducted further strikes in southern Lebanon.
Additional Hezbollah military structures in Kfarkela were targeted and destroyed.
IDF artillery also struck threats in Ayta ash Shab and Aalma El Chaeb.
IDF’s Statement
The IDF provided details on the operation.
The strikes were part of ongoing efforts to neutralize threats from Hezbollah.
The IDF emphasized its commitment to protecting Israeli citizens from terrorist attacks.

🇷🇺 RUSSIA
US Mercenaries in Russia?

Russia is accusing the US of sending mercenaries to fight alongside Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk and of sending journalists to report from the region. The US Embassy in Moscow has firmly rejected accusations of US involvement in Ukraine’s Kursk incursion.
Embassy Response
The US Embassy dismissed claims of involvement in the Kursk incursion.
The embassy emphasized that independent news organizations make their own decisions, stating that “the US government plays no role.”
The US government actively discourages citizens from traveling to Russia.
Press Freedom Concerns
Press freedom groups condemned Russia’s threats against journalists.
The European Federation of Journalists condemned threats to prosecute Italian journalists.
The Committee to Protect Journalists criticized Russia’s attempts to silence international reporting.

Russia has occupied parts of Ukraine and claimed to annex several regions.
In turn, Ukrainian forces have made incursions into Russian territory.
Peace negotiations are unlikely while Ukrainian forces remain in Russia.

🇦🇫 AFGHANISTAN
Taliban Bans UN Rapporteur

UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Afghanistan Richard Bennett.
The Taliban has barred UN Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett from entering Afghanistan, accusing him of spreading propaganda. Bennett, however, remains undeterred and vows to continue documenting human rights abuses.
Taliban’s Ban
The Taliban has banned Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Afghanistan.
They claim he spreads propaganda and is untrustworthy.
Bennett calls the ban “retrograde” and urges the Taliban to reverse their decision.
Gender Apartheid
The Taliban’s policies have severely restricted women’s rights in Afghanistan.
Women are banned from attending school or work.
The international community has not recognized the Taliban as legitimate rulers due to their human rights record.
UN’s Response
The UN continues to monitor human rights abuses in Afghanistan despite the ban.
Bennett vows to keep documenting violations and advocating for improvements.

🇩🇪 GERMANY
IS Supporter’s Plot to Attack Sweden

Federal prosecutors in Germany have charged two Afghan men with plotting a shooting near Sweden’s parliament.
The Plot
Two Afghan men were charged with planning a shooting near Sweden’s parliament.
The plot was a reaction to Koran burnings in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries last year.
One man is a member of the “Islamic State” (IS), and the other is a supporter.
They allegedly donated money to ISKP, an IS arm in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Preparations
The suspects took concrete steps to prepare for the attack.
They researched the area around the Swedish parliament online.
They attempted several times to procure weapons but were unsuccessful.
The suspects were arrested in March in Gera, Germany, and have been in pretrial detention since.
Background
The plot was a response to anti-Islam protests in Sweden.
Koran burnings in Sweden last summer led to violent demonstrations in Muslim countries.
Sweden’s intelligence agency raised its threat level due to these events.
The incidents also affected Sweden’s bid to join NATO, with Turkey citing them as a reason for delay.
