Recently, two small portraits by Rembrandt of his distant in-laws were discovered in a private collection. These portraits have never been seen before and were not mentioned in any Rembrandt literature. These portraits are expected to fetch a price between $6.25 million and $10 million at an auction scheduled for July 6 in London.

🇨🇳 🇷🇺 China and Russia Blast G7 Summit

What happened: The G7’s joint statements during the summit in Japan have exacerbated friction between China and the G7 nations and their allies.
The state-backed Chinese mouthpiece Global Times blasted the G7 as an “anti-China workshop,” accusing them of 'smearing' and 'slandering'.
G7 Statements: Group of Seven (G7) declarations singled out China on issues including:
Taiwan,
Nuclear arms,
Economic coercion,
Human rights abuses against Tibetans and Xinjiang Uyghurs.
They also declared de-risking their relationship with China. Many times, even when China was not explicitly mentioned, it was clear that the leaders were talking about them. For example, I think it’s clear which company this excerpt is talking about:
“We express concern about regulations that unjustifiably require companies to localize data or those that allow governments to access data without appropriate safeguards and protections.”
China’s Reaction: Beijing’s foreign ministry firmly opposed the G7’s statement - later summoning Japan’s ambassador to China in an act of protest. China also accused the US and its allies of double standards over comments about a nuclear build-up and the use of economic leverage.
Russia’s Reaction: Russia, a close ally of China that was also called out in the G7 statement over its war in Ukraine, said the summit was an “incubator” for anti-Russian and anti-Chinese hysteria.
