CCP Buying Up US Education Sector?

Hi Global Recap readers,
Fred Hu. CCP ties. US education takeover. Heard of it?
No? Well, you’re in for a treat. I’ve got the scoop on this at the end of the newsletter. Trust me, you’ll want to dig deeper into this one. 😉
🌐 Here’s what’s up around the world:
⏪ Biden U-Turns on Trump’s Wall.
🚀 US Blasts Turkish Drone Out of the Sky.
🚀 Putin’s Nuclear Missile Test: A Bluff or a Threat?
💣 Putin Reveals Details of Prigozhin’s Plane Crash.
🇨🇳 CCP Buying Up US Education Sector?
Let’s get into today’s news.
📈 Top News

⏪ Biden U-Turns on Trump’s Wall. The Biden administration has announced that it is resuming the construction of the border wall with Mexico, reversing its earlier stance and waiving 26 federal laws.
However, Biden claims his hands are tied. He says that the Trump-era funding approved for the wall construction must be used in 2023, and cannot be reallocated.
Trump supporters: “We told you so. Illegals are flooding in.”
Biden supporters: “Why are you appeasing MAGA voters?”
Analysts: “This is politically motivated.”

🚀 US Blasts Turkish Drone Out of the Sky. A US fighter jet shot down an armed Turkish drone near its troops in Syria, marking the first time the US has taken down a NATO ally’s aircraft.
On Thursday morning, Turkish drones were striking Kurdish militants 0.6 miles away from US troops. Hours later, the drones crept even closer, halving the distance to a mere 0.3 miles. That was the final straw for the US.
“We have no indication that Turkey was intentionally targeting US forces.”

🚀 Putin’s Nuclear Missile Test: A Bluff or a Threat? Russia says it has tested a new nuclear-powered cruise missile that can almost fly anywhere on Earth and dodge any defense. The Burevestnik is one of the weapons that Putin unveiled in 2018 as part of his plan to ensure Russia’s strategic dominance.
But experts are skeptical and worried about the test, as previous attempts have failed most of the time.

💣 Putin Reveals Details of Prigozhin’s Plane Crash. Putin revealed on Thursday that hand grenade fragments were found in the bodies of the victims, including Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group. He also added that cocaine was found in Prigozhin’s St. Petersburg office after his failed coup attempt.
Okay, let me connect the dots. Is Putin implying that Prigozhin, while high on drugs, may have blown himself up in the plane that crashed and burned?

CCP Buying Up US Education Sector?

🇨🇳 NYC Schools Owned by CCP. Some of the most prestigious private schools in New York City are reportedly under the control of an alleged CCP boss. But it’s not just NYC schools that he is interested in.

👉 Meet Fred Hu, the CCP Kingpin. He is the founder and chairman of Primavera Capital Group, a Hong Kong-based investment firm that bought Basis Independent Schools in 2019. He is also a Harvard PhD, a former Goldman Sachs executive, and an adviser to several elite institutions.
👎 Who Is He? Hu is not just a savvy businessman. He is also a senior member of the CCP, according to the Financial Times. He has lectured at the Communist Party School in Beijing, advised the Chinese government on economic issues, and participated in a political body that spreads CCP propaganda.
However, Primavera Capital Group denies Hu’s CCP membership.
🇨🇳 What the CCP says about Hu. Okay, let’s take their word for it. But it is hard to believe that the CCP will say this about a non-CCP member:
“[Hu] is considered a ‘symbol of the world’ and one of China's most influential investors.”
📚 Basis Independent Schools. Hu’s Primavera Capital Group owns 10 Basis Independent Schools across the US, including four in NYC. These schools charge up to $44,500 a year and claim to educate students to the highest international standards.
🇺🇸 Buying more of the US education sector. But that’s not all. Last year, Hu’s company also bought up a test preparation company Princeton Review and Tutor.com.
😡 The Resistance. In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis recently took action against four Spring Education schools, which is also owned by Hu’s company, stripping them of state scholarship funds after concluding they were a risk to students and the public’s safety due to their “CCP links.”
❓ All these acquisitions beg the question: “Why is it so interested in the US education sector?“
(Needless to say, this is a deep and complex controversy that is hard to cover in its entirety in a single post. If you are interested, I suggest you dig into it more and come to your own conclusions)
