China’s Spy Base: Biden Official Confirms

Hello again, Global Recap readers!

Can you imagine smelling perfume from 2,000 years ago? Well, someone did. A sealed vial of Roman perfume was discovered in a funerary urn in the Roman city of Carmo, near Seville in Spain, and has been opened after all these years.

So what did it smell like? Patchouli.

The perfume was found during an archaeological dig in a mausoleum and had been preserved inside a vessel carved in quartz. The characteristics of the tomb and the valuable material used for the vessel suggest that it was a highly valuable product.

To put the timeframe into perspective, this was from the time of Jesus.

China’s Spy Base: Biden Official Confirms

China’s Spy Base in Cuba: A Biden administration official (speaking under anonymity) has confirmed that China has been spying on the United States from a spy base in Cuba since at least 2019. The official stressed that this issue was "inherited" by the current administration and did not happen under their watch.

Initial Denial: Many news outlets reported last week that China had been in conversations with Havana to establish a new spy base in Cuba. The White House and the Pentagon initially denied these reports, calling them "inaccurate.”

Diplomatic Efforts: President Biden directed his administration to address the issue through diplomacy. The official stated that these engagements have brought results and have slowed down the CCP’s spying operations. In fact, the CCP "upgraded" its spy facility in Cuba in 2019 - a well-documented intelligence record.

Congressional Oversight: Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio), chair of the House Intelligence Committee, criticized the administration for their contradictory statements:

“President Biden needs to stop ignoring the threat from China. […] In less than 48 hours, officials from the Biden administration have contradicted themselves multiple times about whether or not the Chinese Communist Party is spying on the United States. This is unacceptable.”
