Santa’s "Spirit"

Hi Global Recap readers,

🎄 Happy holidays!

I really didn’t want to dampen your holiday spirits with dire news, so I’ve mixed in a quirky Christmas-related story that is only possible today.

It’s about a Santa, with too much Christmas spirit

🌐 Around the world:

  • 🎅 Too much Christmas spirit for Santa.

  • ☢️ Nuclear ship fire.

  • 🔎 Putin’s critic who disappeared… found.

  • 🛩️ Human trafficking plane, finally flying again.

  • 🇺🇦 Ukraine celebrates Christmas.

  • 🧨 Explosives tailor for kindergarten kids found in Gaza kindergarten.

Let’s get into today’s news.

🎅 Santa’s “Spirit”

Who said, "Christmas is the spirit of giving?" It seems like Santa took this saying way too seriously by giving up his license.

  • What Heppend? A German Santa, tipsy from holiday spirits, crashed his sleigh—er, car—into a house while on a gift delivery mission.

  • Details: Santa hit a house and a parked vehicle.

  • Police: Santa’s license was seized.

Thankfully, the presents survived unscathed, prompting the Santa to vow their delivery the following day.

🔥 Nuclear Fire

Russia’s Sevmorput, a nuclear-powered ship, was on fire - literally.

  • What Happened? Docked in the Russian city of Murmansk, the vessel’s cabin caught ablaze.

  • Size: The inferno engulfed up to 323 square feet (30 square meters), but it was eventually extinguished with no casualties reported.

Oh, and the reactor is also reportedly fine.

It’s a Christmas miracle. 🎄

🔍 Navalny Found!

Navalny being detained at a protest in Moscow in 2012. Yes, he’s been doing this for a while now.

After going missing from his penal colony while serving his 19-year prison sentence, Putin’s most vocal critic, Alexey Navalny, has resurfaced in a remote Siberian penal colony.

His whereabouts were a mystery until his team’s recent reveal.

  • Relocation: From a colony near Moscow to Siberia’s frigid Kharp.

  • Charges: He was convicted of forming and financing an “extremist group,” among other offenses.

Navalny catapulted to prominence following the release of his viral YouTube video titled “Putin’s Palace,” which unveiled the president’s alleged corruption. If you’re not among the 128 million viewers of this video, isn’t it time you joined them? 👇

✈️ Human Trafficking Plane?

A charter plane finally departed for India after it was grounded in France for four days after French police received an anonymous tip about its possible involvement in human trafficking.

The passengers, mostly Indians, were en route to Nicaragua from the United Arab Emirates.

  • Stranded: Around 300 Indians were stranded inside the airport for four days.

  • Passengers: Included a 21-month-old child and 11 unaccompanied minors.

  • Asylum: Several passengers have requested asylum in France.

  • Investigation: French authorities are still probing the original flight’s purpose.

🎄 Ukraine’s Bold Christmas Move

When do you celebrate Christmas?

Most of you probably answered December 25 right? Duh, it’s today.

Well, Ukraine’s Orthodox Christians have been celebrating it on January 7th, except this year, they celebrated it on December 25 for the first time in a defiant gesture towards Russia.

  • Calendar Shift: The switch from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar aligns Ukraine with the Western world.

  • War Response: Amidst conflict, Ukrainians seek to distance their cultural identity from Russian influence.

Gaza

Explosives for Kids Found

Weapons found at a Gaza kindergarten.

🧨 Explosive Discovery Shocks. Israeli soldiers uncovered a disturbing scene in a Gaza kindergarten over the weekend. What did they find?

A weapons compound operated by Hamas filled with:

  • Explosive belts made for children

  • Toy chests hiding warheads

  • Mortar shells

  • Grenades

  • Intelligence documents

🛑 Another Raid. In a separate raid of a Gaza school, following the evacuation of Palestinian refugees from the compound, a sweep uncovered a cache of grenades, RPG missiles, explosives, and firearm ammunition.

💣 Why It Matters. This is not only alarming because it exposes the use of civilian areas for military purposes but also due to the potential involvement of children in terrorism, raising serious ethical and humanitarian concerns. I wonder if this would be scrutinized as heavily as Israel’s continuous bombing of Gaza.

🕊️ Seeking Peace. As negotiators work towards a temporary truce, the focus remains on freeing Israeli hostages and providing humanitarian aid to displaced Palestinians.

🤝 Egypt’s Plan. On Monday, Egypt proposed a bold plan that aims to establish a technocratic government for Gaza’s reconstruction and pave the way for democratic elections.

  1. Initial ceasefire of up to two weeks, where Gaza would free 40-50 Israeli hostages for 120-150 Palestinian prisoners.

  2. Continued negotiations on continued hostage release & ceasefire.

  3. Create a government of experts to rule Gaza and the West Bank until Palestine is ready to hold democratic elections.

  4. Withdrawal of Israeli forces - allowing Gaza residents to return home.

This sounds very optimistic. Maybe too much so.

It would be great for things to work out as planned - don’t get me wrong. But the question is… will it?
