Horny politician

Hi Global Recap readers,
Every day, I dive into research for Global Recap, thinking I’ve seen it all. But the world has a funny way of proving me wrong.
😯 The last thing I expected to find? A 75-year-old politician dropping lewd comments on OnlyFans accounts. I thought it was just one, but screenshot after screenshot keeps popping up…
🇩🇪 GERMANY
Commenting on
OnlyFans Accounts

Bernd Vogel, a 75-year-old German politician, has withdrawn his candidacy for the upcoming federal elections after his sexually explicit comments on social media came to light.
❓ Question: Obviously, If he weren’t running for office, it’d just come off as creepily horny—but nothing out of the ordinary. But I have a few questions:
• Did he not realize the posts were public?
• Or did he know and just forget to switch to his alt?
The Scandal
Vogel's campaign aspirations ended abruptly on January 6, 2025, after his inappropriate social media activity was discovered.
Vogel, a retired teacher with a varied political career, had recently joined the conservative minor party "Bündnis Deutschland" (Alliance Germany).
He had been posting explicit comments on adult content creators' posts on platform X.
His comments were public, and he had “Bündnis Deutschland” in his profile name at first. But, of course, he’s dropped that connection now.
Screenshots
I have a feeling this guy is going to be immortalized as a meme.

Aftermath
The state board of Bündnis Deutschland Lower Saxony swiftly condemned his behavior.
They stated that "Such actions stand in direct opposition to our party's values and will not be tolerated."
The party leadership told Vogel to apologize publicly and drop his candidacy—and he did.
He posted: "I apologize for the stupid posts. I am withdrawing my candidacy from the state list and will not run as a direct candidate in any constituency. Sorry!"
💭 Thoughts: I’m not sure if it’s a German thing, or if I’m overthinking it, but that exclamation point at the end makes it look like he’s having a blast.

Regent Street Bomb Scare
London’s Regent Street erupted into chaos on January 8, 2025, as panicked shoppers fled a bomb scare.
Police evacuated the area after spotting a suspicious vehicle.
Panic on Regent Street
Shoppers sprinted for their lives as alarms blared.
Police ordered everyone to leave “immediately” around 2 PM.
Footage shows people running in panic, with alarms ringing in the background.
Controlled Explosions
The Met Police took no chances and carried out controlled explosions.
The vehicle’s window was shattered during the blast.
This was done as a “precautionary measure.”
Incident Stood Down
The situation was eventually resolved, and normalcy returned.
The Met Police confirmed the vehicle was non-suspicious.
Road closures were lifted, and the area was declared safe.
Eerie Aftermath
The usually bustling street was eerily deserted post-evacuation.
A video posted online showed empty streets with the caption, “I’m still in the office on Regent Street. Very eerie. Heard at least one explosion.”
The fire service was also present, supporting the police.

🇺🇸 UNITED STATES
Is the US
Funding the Taliban?
A Republican rep claims the US is funding the Taliban, sparking fresh scrutiny over aid to Afghanistan. This has many, already frustrated with billions going overseas while problems pile up at home, questioning if it’s true.
The Allegation
Tennessee Representative Tim Burchett made the claim on social media.
Burchett responded to Elon Musk on X, sharing an open letter to President-elect Donald Trump.
He urged Trump to stop funds from reaching the Taliban.
Financial Aid Details
The US is the largest humanitarian donor in Afghanistan.
Since mid-August 2021, the US has provided nearly $2 billion in assistance.
USAID stated in January 2024 that it was not providing any assistance to the Taliban.
Why It Matters
The issue? The US officially lists the Taliban as a terrorist group.
The US ousted the Taliban from power in 2021 after the 9/11 attacks.
When the US withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban reclaimed control.
SIGAR Report Findings
A May 2024 report revealed that American aid had reached the Taliban.
Around $10.9 million in aid ended up in the Taliban's pockets.
This was due to a system set up by the previous Afghan government to benefit from agencies working on behalf of the US and its allies.
A US Department of State spokesperson clarified that the $10.9 million was for salary withholdings essential for humanitarian operations.
Taliban Activist’s Response
In response, Taliban activist @haidarhashmi0 posted a 9/11 photo on his X page—then quickly deleted it. But the internet never forgets:

Burchett's Bill
Burchett introduced the No Tax Dollars for the Taliban Act in December 2023.
The bill sought to stop US funds from reaching the Taliban, but it didn’t progress to the then-Democrat-controlled Senate.
Burchett asked Trump for support in resurrecting his bill.
With a GOP-controlled Congress, the bill could have an easier path now.

🇲🇽 MEXICO
Mexico’s President Mocks Trump
President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico had a field day poking fun at President-elect Donald Trump’s comments about her country. She even suggested renaming the US to “Mexican America” after Trump’s remark about renaming the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America.
Sheinbaum’s Sassy Response
Sheinbaum used a 1607 map to mock Trump’s assertions.
The map labeled North America as Mexican America and already identified the Gulf of Mexico as such, 169 years before the US was founded.
“Why don’t we call it Mexican America? It sounds pretty, no?” she joked.
Trump’s Cartel Comment
Trump claimed Mexico was “essentially run by the cartels,” but Sheinbaum wasn’t having it.
She said Trump was ill-informed and emphasized that “the people rule” in Mexico.
She expressed confidence in collaborating with Trump’s government while defending Mexico’s sovereignty.
Collaboration and Concerns
Sheinbaum highlighted areas of collaboration and concerns between Mexico and the US.
She mentioned immigration containment, security, and drug trafficking as key areas of cooperation.
She also stressed the importance of stopping the entry of US firearms into Mexico, noting that about 75 percent of seized guns in Mexico are illegally smuggled from the US.

🇺🇦 UKRAINE
Ukraine Strikes
Russian Oil Depot
Ukraine has launched a drone attack on a Russian oil depot, causing a massive fire and disrupting the logistics of Russia’s strategic bombers.
Overnight Drone Attack
Ukraine’s military targeted an oil facility in Engels, Russia, nearly 400 miles from the border.
The attack caused a huge fire at the Kombinat Kristall oil depot, which supplies fuel to the Engels-2 military airfield.
At least two Russian firefighters were killed, and another specialist was hospitalized.
Impact on Russian Logistics
The destruction of the oil depot poses significant challenges for Russia’s strategic aviation.
The fire reduces Russia’s ability to strike Ukrainian cities and civilian objects.
Long-range drone strikes have become a key tactic for Ukraine in disrupting Russian logistics and damaging weapons stockpiles.
Previous Attacks on Saratov
This is not the first time Ukraine has targeted the Saratov region.
Russian air defenses intercepted 23 Ukrainian drones in the overnight attack, but numerous explosions were reported.
Ukraine’s military said the drones used in the attack were made in Ukraine.
Russian Response
Russia fired 64 drones at targets in Ukraine overnight.
Ukraine’s air force shot down 41 of the drones, while 22 others did not reach their targets.
At least 13 people were killed in a Russian strike on the Zaporizhzhia region.
