Hi Global Recap readers,
At this point, I open X at market open out of habit just to see whether today’s “BREAKING NEWS” is another Iran-US deal update.
People have moved past reacting to the reports. Now they’re just guessing what comes first:
Trump posting “FAKE NEWS” on Truth Social
or some unnamed Iranian official “familiar with the matter” declaring that "THERE WILL BE NO PEACE UNTIL ISRAEL CEASES TO EXIST."
Let’s see what today brings. 👇🏼
👀 This Week So Far
Quick Catch-Up
🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran-US: The US hits IRGC boats, a missile site, and a Bandar Abbas drone-control station while Iran reportedly floats a total of $24 billion payment alongside the signing of a peace deal.
🇷🇺🇺🇦 Russia-Ukraine: Russia fires a nuclear-capable Oreshnik during a 600-drone, 90-missile barrage near Kyiv, then tells foreigners and diplomats to leave before more strikes on "decision-making centers."
🇮🇱🇱🇧 Israel-Lebanon: Israel pushes beyond its self-drawn Yellow Line in southern Lebanon and launches more than 120 airstrikes while reported Iran-US deal terms would limit attacks tied to Lebanon.
🇮🇱🇵🇸 Israel-Palestine: Israel kills Mohammed Odeh, Hamas's newly appointed military chief, less than 2 weeks after killing his predecessor in Gaza.

🇷🇴🇷🇺 ROMANIA & RUSSIA
Drone Hits Romania
A Russian drone hit an apartment building in Galati, Romania, after crossing from an overnight attack near Ukraine's river border, Romanian authorities said.
What We Know:
Romania's Defense Ministry said radar tracked the drone through Romanian airspace before it crashed onto the roof.
Two F-16s and an IAR 330 SOCAT helicopter scrambled from Fetesti.
Two people were injured, a 10th-floor apartment caught fire, and about 70 residents evacuated or left.
Romania told NATO about the incident and asked allies to speed up anti-drone transfers.

🇮🇷🇺🇸 IRAN & US
Deal… Again?

Axios reported that US and Iranian negotiators had agreed to a 60-day MOU to extend the ceasefire and start nuclear talks, with President Trump still withholding final approval.
But there are so many issues with this story:
This news came after market open.
The running joke online is that Axios has said some version of “this deal is super close to being signed” so many times that people have basically stopped believing it, and are now half-joking that it’s helping insider traders pump the market.
Soon after the news broke, the reports started contradicting each other.
Some said the Supreme Leader had refused to sign off on the deal.
Others said he was close to approving it.
Meanwhile, another round of reports claimed Trump wanted a few days to think it over.
What a mess.
Here's what we know:
Vice President JD Vance later said the US was "very close," but still working through language on enrichment and Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpile.
Iran has not publicly confirmed the MOU, and IRGC-linked Tasnim cited a source saying the text was not finalized.
🤔 Observation. If you look at the comments under social media posts reporting this “BREAKING NEWS,” people are now openly mocking Axios for spreading unreliable news, or the Trump administration for dragging the whole thing out.
Some are calling it “negotiation fatigue.”

🎙️ PODCAST
Sunk Cost Fallacy
I’m in too deep…
When I first started this podcast promo, I thought:
“They keep saying the Iran-US peace deal is close to being signed, so let’s just promote this for a few days until the deal happens.”
Big mistake.
I stopped for a few days, then restarted because… well, there’s still no deal. And at this point, it feels too late to stop.
I think I’m three weeks in now. It would be genuinely insane if I end up having to write this for another few months.
Join the running inside joke. 👇🏼

🇺🇸 UNITED STATES
Inflation’s Back

US inflation rose at its fastest pace in 3 years in April, with the PCE price index up 3.8% from a year earlier as the Iran war fed higher energy costs and squeezed household income.
The Fed Problem:
Kevin Warsh was sworn in as Federal Reserve chair last week after President Trump spent months attacking Jerome Powell for not cutting rates.
The Fed held its target rate at 3.5% to 3.75% in late April and says it is still trying to get inflation back to 2%.
Warsh may want easier money, but he is one vote on a 12-member rate-setting committee.

Kashkari is one of the 12 voting members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).
Calling the war shock "temporary" would be the cleanest political argument for cuts, but is it safe? Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Kashkari says we may need to raise rates if inflation persists.
💭 Remember: lower inflation rate means prices are rising less quickly. It does not mean prices fall.

🇳🇱🇨🇭 NETHERLANDS & SWITZERLAND
”Dutch” and “Swiss” Men

A stabbing at Winterthur station and a bomb scare in The Hague led news outlets to describe the suspects as “Swiss” and “Dutch.” But once photos of the suspects started circulating, people began arguing over whether those labels really fit.
The argument isn’t really about whether those labels are technically accurate, but whether there’s an ulterior motive behind emphasizing them in the first place.
Some are calling the backlash racist.
This is happening amid growing political debate around Europe’s immigration policies.
🇨🇭 Switzerland

Swiss officials said a 31-year-old Swiss-Turkish dual national wounded 3 Swiss men at Winterthur station on May 28.
Zurich security chief Mario Fehr called it "terrorist attack" and pointed to radicalization.
He reportedly yelled “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.
The suspect was born in Switzerland, gained Swiss citizenship in 2009, and had previously drawn police attention over Islamic State propaganda.
🇳🇱 The Netherlands

Dutch police said a 28-year-old man from The Hague claimed he had a bomb at city hall, triggering evacuations at city hall and the Central Library.
A specialist unit arrested him. Police said his backpack contained no explosives and described him as known for confused behavior.
One mocking comment called him:
a "10th-generation Dutch man"

🇮🇱🇵🇸 ISRAEL & GAZA
Gaza Squeezed Again

Israeli PM Netanyahu said he has ordered the military to push Israeli control of Gaza to 70%, up from the roughly 53% Israel held under the October ceasefire's "yellow line."
What Changed:
Netanyahu said Israel already controls about 60% of the strip and told forces to move "first" to 70%.
The ceasefire framework left Hamas-run Gaza west of the yellow line while later Israeli withdrawals were tied to further steps, including Hamas disarmament.
Recent reporting put Israel's effective control near 64% after the line's markers and restricted zones moved deeper into Gaza.
If carried out, Netanyahu's order would squeeze Gaza's 2.1 to 2.2 million Palestinians into less than one-third of the territory.
Here’s the Prime Minister talking about his directive:
