Hi Global Recap readers,
Unlike Trump, Xi almost never talks to the media, so this week’s footage definitely stood out.
(More on that below. I also think the interview attached below is more revealing than it looks, and definitely worth watching.)
Now that we’re heading into the weekend, rumors are already flying online that Trump is planning to resume strikes against Iran very soon. It’s still just speculation, but definitely something to keep an eye on.
🇵🇱🇺🇸 POLAND & US
Abrupt 4,000
Cancellation

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth (left) and Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz (right) in Warsaw, Poland, February 14, 2025.
Pete Hegseth abruptly canceled a planned 4,000-troop US Army rotation to Poland, surprising Pentagon staff and European allies because troops and equipment had already begun moving.
What Changed:
The halted unit was a Texas-based armored brigade expected to deploy for 9 months.
The Pentagon has not publicly explained the decision.
Poland’s Defense Minister said the issue "does not concern Poland" and tied it to broader US force changes in Europe.
However, a US official said, “We had no idea this was coming,” while US and European officials reportedly spent the last 24 hours scrambling to figure out what's going on.
The move follows a separate US plan to withdraw 5,000+ troops from Germany.

🇨🇳🇮🇷🇺🇸 CHINA & IRAN & US
No Patience

By the way Trump answered Hannity, he seems aware of the criticism that he’s dragging the war on “indefinitely” while Iran keeps stalling. There’s also speculation that the US abruptly paused the bombing because it has burned through too much of its stockpile.

"I am not going to be much more patient."
This is what President Trump said in Fox news interview on Thursday, after meeting Xi Jinping in Beijing, where the White House said both leaders backed reopening the Strait of Hormuz and preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons.
What's Goin On:
An Indian cargo vessel carrying livestock sank off Oman after a suspected drone or missile strike. All 14 crew were rescued.
UK maritime monitors said "unauthorized personnel" boarded another vessel near Fujairah (UAE) and headed toward Iranian waters.
For Optics

What’s also interesting is how Trump responded when Hannity pressed him on Chinese nationals buying up farmland and property near US military bases.

What was revealing about this particular interview is that Trump confirmed what many were suspecting—securing enriched uranium is not necessary, but beneficial from a "public relations standpoint."
Essentially: for optics (which is still very important).
American Liquid Gold

Interesting seeing Trump finally on the left side of the shot.

On top of all this, President Xi reportedly expressed interest in purchasing more American oil in the future to reduce China's dependence on the Strait of Hormuz.
Still, these "promises" should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Although, if the US keeps expanding its leverage over key energy routes in the Middle East, while also deepening its influence over Venezuela’s oil sector, this particular "promise" may not be too far-fetched.

He Really Didn’t Know…
North Korea recently amended its constitution so that if its Dear Leader is decapitated, nukes are fired “automatically” to ensure mutual destruction.
Horrifying, right? That’s the kind of leverage 90% enriched uranium and nukes can buy a hellbent regime that chants “Death to America” every chance it gets.
Which brings me to something that genuinely shocked me. A close friend of mine (who’s in his 60s) recently asked me:
“What happened to Iran? It used to be so rich and peaceful. I never knew that the King was seeking nukes. What’s gotten into him?”
Who’s gonna tell him…

🇫🇮 FINLAND
Drone Alarm Ends

Finland said a suspected drone threat over the Helsinki region had ended after authorities scrambled fighter jets, mobilized emergency services, and shut Helsinki Airport traffic for about 3 hours.
What We Know:
Officials said Finland was not facing a direct military threat.
Interior Minister Mari Rantanen said people could safely go to work and school.
PM Petteri Orpo said surveillance and response had been strengthened.
The origin of the suspected drones was not immediately known.
📌 Context. The incident lands after recent Ukrainian drones aimed at Russia strayed into Finnish and Baltic airspace. Finland is already moving money into drone defense, including planned funding for Border Guard and police counter-drone systems.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 RUSSIA & UKRAINE
Kyiv Hit Again

Russia’s latest mass strike killed at least 21 people in Kyiv, including three children, after earlier counts of 9 and 16 rose while rescuers kept clearing a collapsed apartment block in Darnytskyi.
What We Know:
Russia fired 56 missiles and 675 drones overnight, with Kyiv the main target.
Ukraine said it shot down or jammed 41 missiles and 652 drones, but 15 missiles and 23 drones still hit 24 locations.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said more than 180 sites were damaged, including over 50 residential buildings.
This strike certianly weakens recent talk that the war is near an endpoint. Russia is still spending missiles and drones at a scale meant to exhaust Ukraine’s air defenses.
