Hi Global Recap readers,
Here are yesterday’s poll results on whether President Zelenskyy’s remarks amounted to a death threat against Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán: NO won with 44.11% of the vote.

Honestly, I’m surprised it was that close.
I guess calling it a “veiled threat” feels more accurate, and a lot less loaded.
I get that he must be frustrated, but I don’t think he’d be reckless enough to make an outright death threat against the leader of an EU country. That would blow up in his face immediately.
We have a follow-up on this story below, so make sure you check that out too. 👇🏼
🇨🇺 CUBA
Trump Eyes Cuba

“Marco finds out he’s set to become President of Cuba, squeezing it in between his other 15 titles.”
Is this meme coming true?
TLDR:
^ Trump said Cuba is "going to fall pretty soon."
^ He said he's going to put "Marco (Rubio) over there."
^ Cuba is already deep in fuel shortages and blackouts.
^ But he also said Iran is the immediate priority.
Details
Interview. In a Friday phone interview, Donald Trump said Cuba "is going to fall pretty soon" while discussing his administration's foreign policy.
He said Havana wants a deal badly.
He suggested sending Secretary of State Marco Rubio to handle the situation.
Priority. Trump also made clear Cuba is not the immediate focus. The administration is concentrating on the war with Iran first, with Cuba framed as something to address later.

Pressure. The background here matters.
The USA has maintained an economic embargo on Cuba for decades.
And it recently tightened sanctions as part of a "maximum pressure" strategy meant to isolate the island financially and restrict its access to global markets.
Energy. That pressure has collided with a severe fuel shortage.
The USA threatened tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba, which helped halt shipments from key partners like Venezuela and Mexico.
This left the island short on fuel for power plants, transport, and industry.
Impact. The shortages have meant rolling blackouts, grounded flights, and rationed energy across the island. Fuel scarcity has also disrupted garbage collection, food production, and hospital operations as the crisis spills into everyday life for Cuba's roughly 11 million residents.
📌 Context. The US embargo on Cuba dates back to the early Cold War and has shaped the island's economy for more than sixty years.

🇷🇺 RUSSIA
Russia Helps Iran Aim
But China Too?

Russian President Vladimir Putin (left) and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian (right)
TLDR:
^ US officials say Russia gave Iran targeting intel.
^ The intel included American warships and aircraft.
^ That could mean Russia is now involved in the war (at least indirectly).
^ Officials called it the first clear sign of that.
Details
Claim. Three officials familiar with the intelligence said Russia has been giving Iran information it can use to target American forces in the Middle East.
The material included the locations of USA warships and aircraft.
Shift. That matters because it is the first clear sign, from the US view, that another major American adversary is now helping Iran in the war, even if not by pulling the trigger itself.

Strike. Incidentally, a building beside the US Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters in Juffair, Bahrain, was dmanaged after an Iranian drone attack over the weekend.
Will this sway President Trump to take a different stance against Russia in relation to the Russia-Ukraine war?
📌 Context. Iran has been attacking US targets in the Middle East, and the 5th Fleet base in Bahrain is one of Washington's most important military hubs in the region. If Russia is now feeding targeting data into that fight, the conflict could get complicated real soon.
Also note that there are reports that also suggest that China may be preparing to provide Iran with financial and military assistance to Iran too.
🇭🇺 HUNGARY
Hungary Frees
Ukrainian Bank Staff
TLDR:
^ Seven Oschadbank staff detained in Hungary are back in Ukraine.
^ Hungarian authorities tied the stop to suspected money laundering.
^ They were carrying $40 million, 35 million euros, and gold.
^ Kyiv called it "hostage-taking" and blasted Budapest.

Reminder. On March 5, Hungarian authorities detained seven employees of state-owned Oschadbank as they drove two bank vehicles from Austria into Ukraine.
Hungary said it suspected money laundering.
It said the convoy was carrying $40 million, 35 million euros, and 9 kilograms (19.8 pounds) of gold.
Release. A day later, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said all seven had been released and crossed back into Ukraine.
Fight. Kyiv said Hungary gave no explanation at first and blocked consular access, then summoned Hungary's charge d'affaires and warned Ukrainians not to travel there.
Hungary's tax and customs authority said it had notified Ukrainian consular officials immediately and got no reply.
EU. On top of that, Brussels issued a rare rebuke of President Zelenskyy over his veiled threat toward Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán.
The European Commission hit Zelenskyy on Friday after Hungary said his remarks about giving the address of a "certain person" to Ukrainian armed forces were a direct threat aimed at Orbán.
Brussels said that kind of language isn't acceptable and that there must not be threats against EU member states.
📌 Context. This blew up because Hungary and Ukraine were already in a fight over Russian oil transit and President Zelenskyy's supposed threats against Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán.
