Israel Strikes Iran

Hi Global Recap readers,
I was planning to send today’s newsletter earlier, but something told me to hold off—mainly because
the weekend’s almost here (when markets are closed, big things tend to happen);
US officials had just warned that an Israeli strike on Iran could trigger a mass casualty event; and
something just felt off.
Well, it just happened. Israel hit Iran.
This is breaking news, so what I’m about to share could be outdated within seconds! 👇️

🇮🇳 Air India Plane Crashes. An Air India flight bound for London crashed into a medical college in Ahmedabad just after takeoff, killing 241 people. The sole survivor, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, was thrown from the plane as it split apart mid-air. Officials say five medical students were killed when the aircraft struck their hostel. Indian and British authorities are scrambling to assist families, while Boeing investigates the first-ever fatal crash of a 787 Dreamliner.
🇺🇸 Trump Admits Policy Hurts Farmers. Donald Trump just admitted his own hardline immigration policies are slamming US farmers and hotel owners. He admitted in a Truth Social post that “very good, long-time workers” are being forced out, and replacing them is “almost impossible.” This comes after waves of ICE raids at farms in California, meat plants in Nebraska, and hotels across the country. More than 40% of US crop workers and over 90% of the meat and dairy industries rely on foreign-born labor. Trump says “changes are coming” but hasn’t said what that means—or when.
🇮🇱 Israel Deports Gaza Activists. Six more activists detained aboard the Madleen, a boat trying to break Israel’s Gaza blockade, were deported Thursday. Israel Foreign Ministry’s official X account mocked them one last time, reminding them to “take a selfie before [they] leave.”
🇺🇸 Judge Blocks Trump’s Troops. A federal judge just told Trump he can’t deploy National Guard troops in LA, saying the move was illegal under the Tenth Amendment. The order takes effect at noon Friday, stripping Trump of control over the 4,000 National Guard members sent in after protests broke out over immigration raids. California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, sued to stop the deployment and argued the Guard’s involvement would only escalate tensions. But the thing is: Trump has also sent about 700 marines to the region, with their arrival expected any minute now.

🇮🇷 IRAN & 🇮🇱 ISRAEL
Iran Prepares for Israeli Strike
📰 Breaking Details
Details are still limited since the Israeli operation just began, but here’s what we know so far:
Israel didn’t just bomb Iran’s nuclear sites, but surprisingly, also its commanders and scientists.
The strikes are being called “preemptive and precise,” and they’re said to be just the opening move in a multi-stage operation.
The US was allegedly not involved in the strikes.
In the wake of its strikes on Iran, Israel has shut down schools, banned social gatherings, and halted non-essential work as it braces for potential retaliation.
Multiple Iranian state media outlets are reporting that General Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in Israel’s overnight strikes.
Netanyahu’s Statement
He made it clear that Israel’s fight isn’t with the Iranian people—it’s with the country’s dictators.
Netanyahu says Israel can’t let Iran get nuclear weapons because the regime would hand them off to its proxies, who’d aim them straight at Israel.
This isn’t a one-off strike. I
t’s the start of an operation that’ll continue for as many days as it takes for Israel to reach its objectives.
Speaking in English, he was clearly aware of his American audience—invoking images of New Jersey and pointing out that the terrorists aren’t just chanting “Death to Israel,” but also “Death to America.”
Commanders’ Homes
Here are some of the videos making the rounds online, reportedly showing the homes and facilities of commanders:

Analysis

Before today’s strike, reports said Netanyahu was holding off until Trump gave the go-ahead. Now that Israel has hit Iran, does that mean Trump gave the greenlight?
On top of that, the US was already withdrawing diplomats and military families who might be in harm’s way.
One way to look at this: this marks a major setback for President Trump, who campaigned on the promise that he’d strike deals with Russia and Iran/Hamas within days of taking office. So far, though, there’s been little “visible” progress on either front.
That said, if Trump did give the greenlight, it may be because he wanted Iran to rush a deal—and today’s Israeli strike was a sharp “warning” to the regime. This scenario may be plausible, since Israel targeted the homes of commanders and scientists, showing they can hit not just big compounds but also precise spots like individuals’ homes if Iran doesn’t cooperate.
Context: Iran’s Military Build-up
Iran’s defense minister says the country has developed a ballistic missile with a 4,000-lb. warhead.
US intelligence estimates Iran has 2,000 ballistic missiles, many capable of hitting Israel.
Iran has ramped up missile production, now reportedly making 50 per month.
President Masoud Pezeshkian insists Iran will never stop enriching uranium.
Gen. Hossein Salami previously said Iran’s retaliation will be “more painful and more destructive” than last year’s missile strikes on Israel. (As mentioned above, Salami is now reportedly dead).
