Military AI Goes Rogue in Simulation 🦾

The world's oldest recorded stand-up comedy routine has been found on a parchment page. It was written by Richard Heege in 1480, who attended a feast where a minstrel performed a three-part act. 



What’s the Joke? Heege recorded the act in his booklet, which includes a story about a killer rabbit, a mock sermon whereby 3 kings eat so much that 24 bulls explode out of their stomachs, epic sword fights, etc. ⚔

• Now the US Senate has also approved a deal to suspend the debt ceiling into January 2025, avoiding a default crisis.

• The US is revoking visas of Russian nuclear inspectors in retaliation for Russia backing away from the NewSTART nuclear treaty. The US is denying pending applications for new monitors, and canceling standard clearances for Russian aircraft to enter US airspace.

🦾 Military AI Goes Rogue in Simulation

The Rogue USAF Simulation: During last week’s Future Combat Air & Space Capabilities Summit, a US Air Force colonel shared details of a simulation where an AI drone rebelled against and attacked its human operator. 🚀

• The drone was given a mission to destroy surface-to-air (SAM) missiles, but when the operator denied its request to destroy a site, the AI attacked the operator because the operator’s decision interfered with its mission of eliminating SAM sites.

For the AI: completion of its mission > human operator.

AI in Military: Artificial intelligence (AI) is being researched by various organizations, including military groups. With other militarily advanced nations also known to be researching the use of AI technology in their next-generation weapons, regulation of AI seem crucials to avoid a potential Terminator scenario.  🤖
