Hi Global Recap readers,

Mongolia just pulled off a “hold my beer” move on Putin: a move that will make their historic emperor Genghis Khan smile.

What a flex. 👇

🇲🇳 Mongolia Trolls Putin

After watching the Tucker-Putin interview, the former president of Mongolia mocked the Russian President on X.

Notice how he said that Mongolia is a peaceful and free nation. Ouch.

  • Former Mongolian President: Tsakhia Elbegdorj.

  • History: Putin has used historical borders to suggest that Ukraine is part of Russia, despite its independence. So following this logic, should Russia be Mongolian..?

  • Criticism: Elbegdorj has been vocal in supporting Ukraine and denouncing Putin’s aggression and fear of freedom.

  • Empire: The Mongol Empire was the largest in the world, covering much of Eurasia, including China and Ukraine.

😡 Israel Fumes at Moody’s

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich

Moody’s Investors Service, a financial ratings agency, lowered Israel’s credit rating from A1 to A2 on Friday, citing the risks of war and instability making the country’s economic outlook “negative.”

  • Reaction: Israel’s finance minister called it a “political manifesto” that ignored Israel’s economic strength.

  • Economy: Israel’s economy was already facing challenges before the war, such as rising inflation, slowing tech investments, and a controversial judicial overhaul.

🇮🇳 Indians Freed from Qatar

Eight Indian nationals who were sentenced to death in Qatar for alleged espionage have been released and returned home.

  • Secrecy: The Qatari and Indian authorities kept the case and the charges hidden. There were speculations that they were in jail for spying.

  • Employment: The eight men were ex-servicemen of the Indian Navy, working for a defense services provider in Qatar. They were detained in August 2022.

  • Election: The case had drawn attention in India and was seen as a test of Prime Minister Modi’s foreign policy ahead of the general elections in 2-3 months.

🇸🇳 Senegal in Turmoil

Senegalese President Macky Sall

Senegal’s President Macky Sall postponed the elections amid violent protests and accusations of a coup attempt. He said he wanted to avoid electoral chaos and create a peaceful environment for dialogue.

Déjà vu? I feel like I heard this so many times before.

  • Dispute: The Constitutional Council disqualified two opposition candidates, sparking outrage and appeals.

  • Delay: The parliament voted to delay the vote until December, but the opposition rejected the decision and filed a lawsuit.

Hitler’s Speeches: To Be Released

Adolf Hitler

📚 Hitler’s Speeches Go Digital. The speeches of Adolf Hitler, made during his time as chancellor, are about to be digitized and made available online for the first time. However, this is sparking debates about whether this is a good idea or not.

🔍 A Deep Dive into Propaganda. This project, expected to take seven years, is a joint effort between the Institute of Contemporary History Munich-Berlin and the German Broadcasting Archive.

  • Researchers will analyze the language used in these speeches to gain a better understanding of the propaganda techniques.

  • They will document 1,525 speeches that Hitler gave from 1919 to 1945 and add notes and biographies for all the people he mentioned.

This seems like an invaluable academic endeavor for future generations.

What’s the issue?

🤔 Why It Matters. The release of these speeches could help debunk the myths surrounding them. However, historian and propaganda analyst Ian Garner warns that making Hitler’s speeches public also carries risks.

❗ The Risks Involved. While the project aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Hitler’s propaganda techniques, there are concerns about the potential misuse of this information.

  • The release of these speeches could potentially fuel hate speech and extremist ideologies.

  • This project could provide valuable insights into how propaganda shapes public opinion and influences political outcomes.
