Mushroom Cloud Over Russia
Hi Global Recap readers,
Today, the Federal Reserve kicked off its rate-cutting cycle with a sharp 50 basis point reduction.
😇 That’s good news, right? Lower loan rates should mean smoother sailing ahead!
🚨 Not so fast. Some are questioning the rationale behind starting with such an aggressive cut—especially since the last three times they did this were during:
2020 (COVID-19 pandemic)
2007 (Subprime mortgage crisis)
2001 (Dot-com bubble burst)
But let’s not jump to conclusions yet. The economic landscape is not the same. Besides, “this time’s different”… right?

Drone Attack Causes Massive Explosion in Russia
A recent Ukrainian drone attack on Russia has caused a massive explosion at a major arsenal in the Tver region, triggering an earthquake-sized blast and forcing evacuations.
Honestly, when I first saw the explosion, I thought it was caused by a nuke.
Major Explosion
A large-scale Ukrainian drone attack led to a massive explosion at a Russian arsenal in Tver.
The blast was so powerful that it was detected by earthquake monitors.
NASA satellites picked up intense heat sources from the site.
The explosion was consistent with 200-240 tons of high explosives detonating.
Ukrainian Response
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the precision of the attack.
Zelensky highlighted the importance of the attack in weakening the enemy.
He thanked the SBU security service, HUR intelligence service, and Special Operations Forces.
Russian Reaction
Russian officials and citizens expressed anger and concern over the attack.
Some questioned the safety measures at the arsenal.
The governor of Tver confirmed evacuations but reported no fatalities.
Social media was flooded with messages of support and offers of help for those affected.

Just when Hezbollah terrorists were breathing a sigh of relief after their pagers stopped exploding, they were hit by a wave of exploding walkie-talkies.
Second Wave of Attacks
On Wednesday, Israel reportedly remotely detonated the terrorists’ walkie-talkies, following a series of pager explosions the previous day.
At least 20 people were killed and more than 450 injured (subject to change).
There are also reports of solar panels exploding as well.
Casualty Details

Officials are assessing the damage and providing aid to the injured.
The situation remains tense as further actions are anticipated.
Mocking Video
There’s also a video circulating of an Israeli woman, supposedly in an ad selling phone cases. People are mocking how terrorists eagerly bought compromised electronic devices from similar Israeli agents.

Dutch Government Seeks Migration Opt-Out

Geert Wilders
The new Dutch government, led by Geert Wilders, has officially requested an exemption from the European Union’s migration obligations.
This move sets up a confrontation over one of the most contentious issues facing the bloc.
Government’s Bold Move
Migration Minister Marjolein Faber wrote to the European Commission seeking an opt-out.
The request aims to drastically reduce the number of immigrants in the Netherlands.
Wilders called this move a “mini-Nexit,” akin to Brexit.
Policy Blueprint
The government announced its policy plans for the coming year.
Its “strictest asylum policies” aim to limit or deport migrants who don’t qualify for asylum.
It also plans to declare an “asylum crisis” to implement tougher measures.
The policy must be reviewed by a key political advisory panel.
EU’s Response
The EU responded cautiously to the Dutch request.
EU spokeswoman Anitta Hipper stated that an opt-out is only possible with treaty changes.
The last treaty change was in 2008, with no current plans for a new one.
Migration rules remain binding on the Netherlands until any changes are made.

FBI Takes Down Chinese Botnet

The FBI recently dismantled a massive Chinese state-sponsored botnet, Flax Typhoon, which targeted critical infrastructure in the US and abroad.
Operation Details
The FBI, in collaboration with partners, executed a court-authorized operation to take control of the botnet’s infrastructure.
Flax Typhoon hijacked routers and IoT devices like cameras and video recorders.
The botnet targeted corporations, media organizations, universities, and government agencies.
The operation identified thousands of infected devices and removed malware.
Attackers’ Response
The attackers attempted to migrate their bots and conducted a DDoS attack against the FBI.
The FBI and partners mitigated the attack and identified new infrastructure within hours.
Realizing it was the FBI, the attackers abandoned their efforts.
Ongoing Threat
Despite the success, the FBI warns this is just the beginning of a longer fight.
The botnet, also known as Raptor Train, has been active for four years.
It targeted military, government, telecommunications, and defense industry entities in the US and Taiwan.
The botnet is managed through an application called “Sparrow.”
Global Impact
The botnet consisted of over 260,000 devices as of June, with victims worldwide.
The US accounted for 126,000 of the botnet devices.
The botnet relied on the Mirai family of malware.
The Chinese government denies involvement, calling it a “US disinformation campaign.”

UN Resolution Sparks Controversy

The United Nations recently passed a resolution demanding Israel withdraw from the “Occupied Palestinian Territory” within 12 months.
This decision has stirred significant debate and concern.
Resolution Details
The resolution, drafted by Palestinians, received support from 124 countries, with 43 abstaining and 14 voting against it.
The US, along with 13 other countries, voted against the resolution.
The resolution is not legally binding but calls for actions like ceasing the importation of products from Israeli settlements.
Israeli Response
Israel’s new ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, strongly condemned the resolution.
Danon labeled the decision as “shameful” and accused the General Assembly of supporting “diplomatic terrorism.”
He criticized the UN for not condemning Hamas and for ignoring Israel’s security concerns.
Broader Context
The resolution follows a July advisory opinion by the ICJ declaring Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories illegal.
