Musk Suspends Hamas-Linked Account - Sparking Fiery Criticism
Hi Global Recap readers,
I’m a staunch defender of free speech, particularly after my YouTube channel faced a mass attack, teetering on the brink of total demonetization multiple times.
But this latest controversy involving Musk? It’s quite complex and nuanced.
Remember, don’t forget to share your thoughts at the end!

🌐 Around the world:
🧑⚖️ Chinese spy busted and sentenced.
🚀 Hamas is using North Korean weapons.
🇨🇳 China triggers air raid alert in Taiwan.
🇫🇷 France’s youngest PM in history.
❌ Musk suspends Hamas-linked account - sparking fiery criticism.
Let’s get into today’s news.

🇨🇳 Chinese Spy Sentenced

Wenheng "Thomas" Zhao
A US Navy sailor was sentenced to 27 months in jail for selling military secrets to a Chinese spy.
He took $15,000 in bribes to send photos of classified US military information to his Chinese handler.
Identity: A 26-year-old Petty Officer Wenheng "Thomas" Zhao.
“Zhao chose to betray the oath he took to our country and put others at risk.”

🚀 Hamas Using North Korean Weapons

A new report reveals that Hamas has been using North Korean-made weapons in its conflict with Israel.
The report shows photos of North Korean F-7 rocket-propelled grenades with Korean characters on them used by Hamas.
Confirmation: South Korea’s spy agency confirmed the report and said it is collecting more information on the weapons transfer.
Denial: North Korea denied that its weapons were used by Hamas and accused the US of spreading fake news.

🇨🇳 China Triggers Air Raid Alert

On Tuesday, as China propelled a satellite into orbit, Taiwan’s defense ministry issued an air raid alert due to the satellite’s trajectory over southern Taiwan.
Alert: Taiwan’s defense ministry issued a warning to residents about a missile flyover, but later clarified it was a satellite launch.
Tension: The launch comes days before Taiwan’s elections, which China has denounced as a choice between war and peace. The election is to be held on January 13, 2024.
Conflict: China claims Taiwan as its territory and has threatened to use force to reunify the island.

🇫🇷 France’s Youngest PM

Gabriel Attal, the education minister, has been appointed as France’s new prime minister by President Emmanuel Macron.
The move is seen as a fresh start for Macron, who faces a high disapproval rating of 68% and a tough election ahead.
Age: Attal, 34, is the youngest person to hold the second-highest office in modern French history.
Popularity: Attal is the most popular government minister, according to polls, and a close ally of Macron.

Musk Suspends Hamas-Linked Account - Sparking Fiery Criticism

🚀 Tough Call. Elon Musk, who identifies himself as a “free speech absolutist,” recently faced criticism when a user questioned him about the suspension of an X account linked to Hamas.
🚨🇵🇸 Why was Hamas’ X Account BANNED if the ISRAELI TERRORISTS are allowed to keep theirs? @elonmusk

🌐 UN Exemption Rule. Musk clarified that X adheres to a “UN exemption rule,” implying that accounts associated with UN-recognized governments are not subject to suspension. However, since Hamas is not acknowledged as a government by the UN, the account was consequently suspended.
This was a tough call.
While many government leaders, including in the USA, do call for killing people, we have a “UN exemption rule”; if a government is recognized by the UN, we will not suspend their accounts.
Hamas is not recognized as a government by the UN, so was… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

📝 The Logic. So what Musk is saying is this:
The Israeli government is UN-recognized, so it cannot be suspended.
Hamas is not UN-recognized, so it was banned.
🔗 The Suspended Account. The account that was suspended, @qassam2024, had ties to the military wing of Hamas. The precise moment of the suspension remains uncertain.
🗣️ Public Reaction. Musk’s action led to a backlash from some X users, who claimed he was contradicting his own free speech principles. They contended that the UN was essentially setting the free speech guidelines on X.
Some also pointed out that Hamas was elected fairly by the Gazan civilians under strict international supervision. Although, this doesn’t change the fact that Hamas is not recognized by the UN.
@jacksonhinklle Lmao where is the free speech ?? So basically UN is dicting your law ?

@jacksonhinklle So the UN decides who gets Free Speech. Got it.

📜 Past Criticisms. Prior to assuming control of X, Musk had chastised the platform for not upholding the principles of free speech, referring to it as the “de facto public town square.” It appears that many who identify themselves as “staunch advocates of free speech” feel as though Musk has let down their principles.
