🚀 Tough Call. Elon Musk, who identifies himself as a “free speech absolutist,” recently faced criticism when a user questioned him about the suspension of an X account linked to Hamas.

🌐 UN Exemption Rule. Musk clarified that X adheres to a “UN exemption rule,” implying that accounts associated with UN-recognized governments are not subject to suspension. However, since Hamas is not acknowledged as a government by the UN, the account was consequently suspended.

📝 The Logic. So what Musk is saying is this:

• The Israeli government is UN-recognized, so it cannot be suspended.

• Hamas is not UN-recognized, so it was banned.

🔗 The Suspended Account. The account that was suspended, @qassam2024, had ties to the military wing of Hamas. The precise moment of the suspension remains uncertain.

🗣️ Public Reaction. Musk’s action led to a backlash from some X users, who claimed he was contradicting his own free speech principles. They contended that the UN was essentially setting the free speech guidelines on X.
