German Ex-Pilots Betraying Secrets To Chinese?

If you've been online in the last 24 hours, you're likely aware of this. 👇🏻

Gelje Sherpa, a 30-year-old Sherpa, and his colleague rescued a Malaysian climber who was close to freezing to death in Everest’s “Death Zone”. The climber was found clinging to a rope around the Balcony Area, 27,600ft (8,400m) above sea level.
Gelje carried the climber down wrapped in a heating blanket strapped to his back. After 6 hours of arduous descent, he found another Sherpa for assistance, and together they reached a helicopter-accessible area. 🚁
But wait, there’s more. This isn’t like the other heart-warming stories I normally write here. After being rescued, the climber only thanked his financial sponsors, not even mentioning the heroes who essentially resurrected him.

German Ex-Pilots Betraying Secrets To Chinese?

💰 Money over Country: German defense minister Boris Pistorius recently called for China’s recruiting of retired German pilots to be “stopped immediately.”
But if you were part of the CCP, would you listen?
🪖Military Training Programs: It is not like Germany hasn’t conducted military training with China in the past - sharing technical and tactical expertise. But given the current geopolitical climate, this practice is understandably frowned upon now.
Also, it is not unusual for service members from any country to leverage their acquired skills in the private sector after they retire.
🏛️Government Reaction: Meanwhile, lawmakers are urging tighter rules on retired service members with access to security-relevant information. They fear that Chinese pilots may be receiving information on NATO tactics and operational capabilities.
🧑⚖️Legal Gray Zone: Frustratingly for the German government, the work itself does not violate any laws - forcing their hands with limited authority over former servicemen.
But it should also be noted that retired service members are subject to “retroactive” service obligations, requiring them to maintain secrecy about matters they became aware of during service.
🇨🇳China’s Tactics: China is infamous for successfully leveraging foreign know-how to accelerate its often lacking domestic technology. In the industrial sector, foreign nations invest in infrastructure in China to take advantage of its more affordable workforce, while also sharing their knowledge, research, technology, and intellectual property with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Now, German ex-pilots are also handing over military knowledge.
🔎Is the German government right to be concerned?
