North Korean Workers Revolt - Killing Government Official

Hi Global Recap readers,

Who else woke up to find out this was trending on X?

This nearly gave me a heart attack.

We would have to wait for the severity of Biden’s retaliation against Iran…

🇺🇸 Killed US Soldiers: New Info

Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett.

Yesterday, we reported on a drone attack in Jordan which killed three American troops and left dozens injured.

  • Update: Well, now we know that the drone was not taken down because the soldiers had mistaken it for a friendly US drone, which was due to return to base.

  • Casualties: Over 40 troops were wounded, with eight medically evacuated.

  • Victims: The deceased were identified as Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett.

🇮🇱 Hospital Heist

Israeli forces, masquerading as women and medics, infiltrated the Ibn Sina hospital in the West Bank, resulting in the death of three suspected Palestinian militants.

  • Who Are They: According to Israeli officials, three men were implicated in orchestrating a terrorist attack akin to the one executed by Hamas on October 7th.

  • Militants’ Hideout: The hospital was allegedly being used as a hideout by the militants.

🇭🇰 More Hong Kong Crackdown

Hong Kong already has a national security law, which targets dissidents in the name of “national security.”

Critics deem it to be anti-free-speech and anti-democracy - effectively making Hong Kong unofficially come under CCP rule.

  • Now: Hong Kong is pushing for an update to the law, known as Article 23. This move could significantly impact the city’s already-dwindling status as a global financial hub.

  • Law Details: The proposed legislation will cover offenses including treason, theft of state secrets, espionage, and external interference, in order to “fill loopholes.”

  • Why Now: “We can’t wait. We can’t afford to wait,” said Chief Executive John Lee.

🚀 Yet Another Missile

North Korea has been busy - firing cruise missiles into the sea off its western coast for the third time just this month.

Is this merely a show of force to flaunt its expanding arsenal or a direct threat?

  • Weapon Info: The tests followed the launch of the Pulhwasal-3-31 cruise missile, which North Korea claims is submarine-launched.

  • Kim’s Goal: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un aims to build a nuclear-armed navy to counter perceived external threats.

China

Some garment workers look like this.

But some seem less friendly.

🇰🇵 North Korean Uprising. A wage strike by unpaid North Korean factory staff working illegally in China led to the death of a North Korean official visiting from Pyongyang.

👥 The Workers’ Plight. Employees were demonstrating against the unauthorized diversion of their wages, which had been unknowingly and non-consensually transferred to North Korea’s governing Workers’ Party.

  • Staff at around 15 garment factories were due about $10 million in compensation for labor spanning 4 to 7 years that had not been paid.

  • I guess communism isn’t for everyone.

💥 The Violent Protests. The official who was visiting was likely killed amidst a wave of “violent protests” that broke out from January 11 to 15 in Helong, a city located in Jilin, a northeastern province on the border with North Korea.

  • At least one North Korean government official died.

  • Three others were seriously injured.

🔍 The Bigger Picture. This incident is part of a larger issue involving North Korean migrant laborers in China.

  • The employment of these workers is technically prohibited by United Nations sanctions, which ban the hiring of North Korean citizens.

  • Regardless of these sanctions, workers endure severe conditions. They are frequently exploited and their salaries are often withheld for years.
