Hi Global Recap readers,
If you were holding your shorts over the weekend, there’s a decent chance you got completely smoked—all because of one Trump post on Truth Social.
I know a few people who did. 😬
But there are also a bunch of weird “coincidences” here, and that’s why so many people are questioning this whole TACO situation.
🇺🇸 UNITED STATES
TACO Monday
^ On Saturday, Trump gave Iran a 48-hour ultimatum: reopen the Strait of Hormuz or the US hits Iranian power plants.
^ Then Monday morning, right before the market opens, he suddenly says the US is talking to Iranian officials and pausing those strikes for 5 days to work out a deal.
^ Markets rip higher.
^ Iran immediately says none of that is true and calls Trump’s claim fake news.
^ And, very conveniently, thousands of Marines are set to enter CENTCOM’s area later this week—right around when that 5-day window runs out.
Details
Shift. Trump went from threatening to hit Iran’s energy infrastructure within 48 hours to suddenly announcing a 5-day pause.
He said US envoys were in contact with “Iranian figures” and suggested a deal might be in the works.
Iran’s side says that’s not happening. They flatly denied any negotiations and dismissed the whole thing as fake news
Timing. This is where it starts looking less random.
About 2,200 Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), along with two amphibious ships, are scheduled to enter CENTCOM’s region on Friday.
That is also the last weekday of this 5-day pause. And yes, the market is open that day.
Backup. But it’s not just this one deployment.
The Pentagon has also ordered the 11th MEU to head out later aboard the USS Boxer group, with more forces arriving over the following weeks.
So this does not look like a de-escalation posture overall.
Regime. Trump also floated the idea that the Strait of Hormuz could be “jointly controlled” by him and the “next ayatollah.” However, he did clarify immediately that there will still be “a very serious form of a regime change.”
That's a troubling statement. A lot of people supporting ordinary Iranians took it as a sign that the US may be looking for a managed transition or a deal with regime insiders, not necessarily full regime collapse.
Others still think this is classic Trump misdirection and that the real plan is being concealed behind public noise.
Questions
Here are some comments online, regarding Trump's motive of announcing this 5-day pause.
He saw stocks wobble and oil spike, so he floated “talks” to calm markets.
He is buying time for Marines and assets to move into place.
He wants Iranian officials to relax and expose themselves.
He is trying to sow paranoia inside the regime by implying somebody on their side is already talking.
He wants an offramp and this gives him one without openly backing down.

Gold. The gold move is also making people suspicious. Gold just suffered the biggest weekly dollar decline since 1975 (worst percentage decline since 2011).
This is highly unusual since one would normally expect the price to shoot up during war.
So naturally people are asking whether some large players KNEW this pause coming before it was announced.
So what’s Trump’s main motive here?

London Jewish
Ambulance Arson Probe
TLDR:
^ Four Jewish charity ambulances were set on fire in north London early Monday.
^ Police are treating it as an antisemitic hate crime and using counter-terror officers.
^ They're checking possible Iranian links, but aren't blaming Iran yet.
^ No arrests so far, and extra police are being sent to protect Jewish sites.
Details
Attack. Four Hatzola ambulances were set ablaze in Golders Green in the early hours of Monday, and gas canisters inside the vehicles triggered several explosions.
Probe. The Met says it's treating the attack as an antisemitic hate crime and has brought in counter-terror detectives. CCTV is being examined after footage showed three people in dark clothing pouring accelerant on the vehicles and running off.
Claim. Police are also looking at an online claim of responsibility from an "Iran-aligned group," while stressing the incident has not been declared terrorism at this stage.
Response. London police said 264 extra officers would be deployed to protect the Jewish community, with more armed patrols around key sites and Passover coming up.
Aftermath. No injuries were reported, but around 30 people were taken to a local shelter after windows in a nearby residential block were damaged.
📌 Context. Hatzola is a volunteer-run Jewish emergency medical service that has operated in Golders Green since 1979. The attack landed in a period of rising concern about antisemitism in the UK, especially after the October 2023 Hamas attacks and the war in Gaza.
🇪🇺 EUROPE
Hungary Cut Out

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (left) and Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó (right).
TLDR:
^ EU officials are cutting Hungary out of sensitive talks.
^ The fear is that details are getting passed to Moscow.
^ Leaders have already been meeting in smaller groups.
^ Hungary says it's fake news being spread before its April 12 election.
^ For now, nobody in Brussels wants a formal blowup before the vote.
Details
Shift. The basic change is simple. Hungary is reportedly getting less access to confidential EU material, and more of the real conversations are happening in smaller circles without it.
Leak. The trigger was a report alleging that Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto used breaks in EU meetings to update Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Several diplomats and officials said the wider suspicion has been around for a while, not just since this weekend.
Pattern. Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Landsbergis said people were already limiting what they said around Szijjarto in 2024. He said the same thing happened before a NATO summit in Vilnius in 2023, when more sensitive discussions moved away from Hungary.
Politics. Polish PM Donald Tusk said none of this surprised him and linked it to why he keeps his comments in EU meetings to a minimum. But diplomats also said there probably won't be any formal EU response before Hungary's April 12 election because Viktor Orban would likely use that fight in the campaign.
Pushback. Hungary's Europe minister Janos Boka called the whole thing fake news, and Szijjarto rejected the allegations too.
📌 Context. Orbán has been at war with the rest of the EU for years over Russia and Ukraine, and now Hungary has blocked €90 billion in loans for Kyiv. His coziness with Moscow has also turned him into a political outcast in much of the EU.
