Hi Global Recap readers,

The internet is an absolute mess right now after Trump announced a 2-week ceasefire—right after talking about wiping out “an entire civilization.”

Why is it such chaos? Because the reactions are all over the place.

  • Trump critics are switching up their messaging in sync.

  • While his supporters are starting to split on whether this was the right move.

  • At the same time, people backing regime protests in Iran are worried this just leaves ordinary Iranians abandoned.

Here's the breakdown.

(Let us know your thoughts too. Is there a bigger picture?)

🇮🇷🇺🇸 IRAN & US
Trump Pauses Iran Strikes

Timing. Just 90 mins before Trump's 8 pm deadline, the US and Iran agreed on a 2-week ceasefire deal.

  • Trump said he made the call after an appeal from Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif and army chief Gen. Asim Munir.

  • Pakistan also invited the US and Iranian delegations to Islamabad on Friday for more talks.

  • China reportedly also urged Iran to accept the deal.

  • Israel also agreed to the ceasefire.

  • Note: the ceasefire is only valid as long as Iran agrees to the "complete, immediate and safe opening" of the Strait of Hormuz.

Announcement

List. Trump accepted Iran's 10-point peace proposal as a "workable basis" for further negotiations. Here are the reported points:

  1. A guarantee that Iran will not be attacked again

  2. A permanent end to the war (not just a temporary ceasefire)

  3. An end to Israeli strikes in Lebanon

  4. Lifting all US sanctions on Iran

  5. An end to regional fighting targeting Iranian allies

In response, Iran will:

  1. Reopen the Strait of Hormuz

  2. Charge up to $2 million transit fee per ship through Hormuz

  3. Share those fees with Oman

  4. Establish formal rules for safe passage in Hormuz

  5. Use the collected fees for reconstruction

Response

Regime-supporting Iranian women and children lined up around a power plant to form a chain of “human shield.”

Contention. This announcement had everyone going off on social media.

  • Critics were clowning Trump for “TACOing” again (“Trump Always Chickens Out”). A lot of them saw this as him looking for an off-ramp from a failed military campaign, saying there’s no way he would’ve agreed to use that 10-point peace plan as a starting point otherwise, especially since it says nothing about giving up uranium.

  • Supporters, meanwhile, were saying this was classic Trump negotiation strategy: come in at 200%, freak everyone out, then settle somewhere in the middle. They were also dunking on critics who had been claiming Trump was about to cross the line and “genocide” a so-called Iranian “human shield” around energy infrastructure before the deadline.

Some posts on Truth Social questioning Trump’s decision.

Mixed. But this is where things got messier. A lot of Trump supporters weren’t happy either.

  • Their take was that the move made the US look weak, and that Trump should’ve just finished the job in Iran.

  • Some supporters were also arguing that this may have screwed over ordinary Iranians even more. In their view, no matter how many times Trump claims that there was a "regime change" in Iran, the Islamic regime and its supreme leader is still in power and may now feel even more emboldened because the US didn’t fully take it down. That, they say, could mean even worse consequences for Iranians who were hoping to be freed from the regime.

Thoughts

Just like Trump gave in to a lot of people’s late-February hopium for an Iran strike, plenty of people are now hoping that this ceasefire is just a pause to reposition, rework the game plan, and reload before going back in for the actual decapitation play.

  • The logic is basically that the US and Israel do not have infinite munitions, and resupply does not magically keep pace with burn rate in real time.

🇮🇱 ISRAEL
Ceasefire Violation?

An Israeli air-defence system intercepts an Iranian missile flying towards Israel, April 7.

  • The IDF says it stopped hitting Iran at around 3 am once the ceasefire was announced.

  • Iran, though, was reportedly still launching ballistic missiles until about 3:30 am.

  • And even though the not-fully-agreed 10-point plan says Israel is supposed to stop its campaign against Hezbollah too, Israel is says that part is not happening and the fight there is still on.

  • People backing the ceasefire claim Israel could end up trying to sabotage the deal anyway, just to keep the pressure on Iran.

🇫🇷 FRANCE
Hormuz Reopening Push

  • French President Macron says about 15 countries are mobilized to help reopen traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

  • The mission is being planned under France's lead.

  • He called it strictly defensive and said it would coordinate with Iran.

🇬🇷 GREECE
Greece To Ban Under-15s

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis

  • Greece is banning under-15s from social media, starting January 1, 2027.

  • PM Mitsotakis says addictive platforms are driving anxiety and sleep problems.

  • Greece says 75% of child users are still primary-school age.

  • And it wants the EU moving the same way.
