The Truth About Prigozhin’s Mutiny Charges.

Hello again, Global Recap readers! I stepped away from the keyboard on Friday, thinking that I was done writing for the week. Oh how badly I was mistaken!

💭 There are still many theories about the fate of Prigozhin or even the original motive of the uprising:

  • Some say the CIA planned it to divert attention away from the issues in the US, and that Prigozhin and Putin took their money and staged a 'fake coup.'

  • Others are convinced of the mutiny's legitimacy and believe that Prigozhin stopped his 'march for justice' because his family was threatened or because the top officials he thought were on his side became hesitant.

Whatever the truth is, I will be sure to let you all know here.

Shoigu Back on His Feet?

🚪 Shoigu has come out of hiding, or has he? After Prigozhin’s hectic “march” scared the Russian defense minister into hiding, many were left wondering where he is. After all, he was one of Prigozhin’s prime targets for elimination. But today, the Russian government released a 47-second audio-less video of Shoigu fulfilling his duties.

🎬 But many are casting doubt about the timing of the video. Was this filmed before or after the Wagner Group’s coup attempt? Does the audio reveal the timing of the filming? So many unanswered questions still.

Truth About Prigozhin’s Mutiny Charges

Prigozhin leaving Rostov-on-Don

🔥 It looks like Putin didn’t honor his end of the deal. Russia’s FSB originally pressed criminal charges against Prigozhin on Friday night for “organizing an armed mutiny” after he vowed to overthrow Russia’s leadership. After rapidly marching through numerous cities and reaching the footsteps of Moscow, Prigozhin turned his troops around after striking a deal with Putin, mediated by Belarusian President Lukashenko on Saturday evening.

🪖 As a result, the Kremlin at the time said it would drop the “armed mutiny” charges as part of the deal. But an anonymous law enforcement official told the Kommersant Business Daily that charges have not been dropped and the investigation into Prigozhin’s revolt remains ongoing.

Prigozhin finally breaks his silence

🎙️ Today, Prigozhin finally released an 11-minute audio, retrospectively talking about his “march for freedom.” Although he didn’t detail what his future plans are, he justified the march as being:

“a master class, as it should have been on February 24, 2022.”

He also added that its goal was not to overthrow the government. But keep in mind - during the march, he did write on Telegram that Russia would “have a new President.” If that’s not a threat to overthrow the government, I don’t know what is.

North Korea
Totally Voluntary March Against US

🔥 North Koreans had their own march alongside the Wagner Group over the weekend. But their target wasn’t Putin, it was the “US imperialists.” More than 120,000 North Koreans marched in anti-US rallies, pledging “merciless” revenge marking the 73rd anniversary of the start of the Korean War.

🎈But at the same time, Park Sang-hak, a North Korean defector flew balloons carrying some 200,000 anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets and COVID-19 medical supplies across the border from South Korea.

🌊 Radioactive wastewater from Fukushima is days away from being released into the sea. Despite strong opposition from local fishing groups and nearby countries over safety concerns, the equipment needed for the release has been completed and is ready for a safety inspection by Japanese regulators this week.

🕵️‍♂️ Belarus is claiming the West is “training militants to overthrow the Belarusian government”. According to Belarus’ intelligence service, they have identified all the individuals involved. These militants are supposedly being trained in Poland, the Baltic countries, and Ukraine, and are then tested on the battlefield in Ukraine. However, no evidence was given to support this claim.
