They’re Now "Terrorists"

Hi Global Recap readers,

It’s shaping up to be another tense weekend, not just because the stock market’s closed. Now, there are reports that Israel is running low on Arrow missiles to intercept incoming Iranian rockets, pulling the US even deeper into the fight.

  • Imagine this: both the US and Israel do not have an infinite amount of ammo, and the latest push for a de-escalation in Geneva just collapsed.

  • What would you do if you were the US President? Keep dragging this out, scrambling to sort out the logistics of supplying endless munitions? Or hit Iran hard with what’s already in the arsenal and try to end it?

Many fear he’ll go with the second option, but critics are holding out hope that Trump will just “TACO out.”

🇪🇺 Europe Tries Iran Talks. EU foreign ministers met Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi in Geneva on Friday, urging limits on Iran’s nuclear program to avoid US strikes. However, they left without a deal. Iran said it was open to dialogue but insisted it would only happen “once the aggression stops.” Meanwhile, Trump brushed off Europe’s efforts as “unhelpful” and kept doubling down on his demand for Iran’s complete surrender.

🇮🇷 Iran-Backed Protests Erupt. Tens of thousands marched across Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon Friday after prayers, torching Israeli and American flags and chanting “Death to Israel" and "Death to America." In Tehran, crowds surged from mosques holding Khamenei portraits, while in Baghdad, protesters wore white burial shrouds in a show of Shiite martyrdom. Some are calling it a paid, coordinated PR stunt, while others see it as a unified stand against “Zionists” and the “imperialist US.”

🇷🇺 Putin to Claim Sumy. Speaking at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Putin flat-out declared “all of Ukraine is ours,” doubling down on his claim that Russians and Ukrainians are “one people.” He also floated a possible takeover of Sumy. The city’s just 30 km from Russia’s border, and Russian troops have already pushed 12 km into the region, supposedly to create a “buffer zone.” Ukraine called the remarks proof of Putin’s “disdain” for peace efforts.

🇺🇸 Trump Keeps Guard Control. A federal appeals court just sided with Trump, letting him retain control of California’s National Guard troops deployed to LA after immigration raids sparked violent anarchy. California Governor Newsom had sued, arguing that Trump overstepped. A lower court judge had initially ruled Trump’s action illegal, but the appeals court is now making clear that he had enough justification, citing injured officers and damaged federal buildings. Trump called it a “BIG WIN,” but Newsom shot back, saying, “The President is not a king.”

Dignity in Dying campaigners celebrate in Westminster as news broke that MPs had passed the legislation.

🇬🇧 MPs Back Assisted Dying. In a historic vote, UK lawmakers just passed Kim Leadbeater’s assisted dying bill by a razor-thin 314–291 margin, pushing it to the House of Lords after months of debate. If it becomes law, terminally ill adults in England and Wales with less than six months to live could apply for an assisted death. PM Keir Starmer backed it, alongside his opposition predecessor Rishi Sunak. Supporters call it “important” for dying patients to have “a quick, pain-free death,” though critics warn key safeguards were watered down.

Palestine Action:
Being Declared Terrorist

After breaking into a Royal Air Force (RAF) base and sabotaging two of its planes, the UK is officially banning Palestine Action, a pro-Palestine protest network, classifying the protest group alongside Hamas and al-Qaeda as a terrorist organization.

Security Breach Sparks Crackdown

This action comes days after Palestine Action broke into RAF Brize Norton, causing damage to two military aircraft.

  • These “actionists” used red paint and crowbars to damage two Airbus Voyagers.

  • They also left a Palestinian flag on the runway before escaping.

What’s interesting here is: they filmed themselves committing the crime, then posted it online for everyone to see. They even bragged about not getting caught and urged others to join them in stopping what they called a "genocide."

What the Ban Means

Now, the UK is taking formal steps to criminalize the group’s existence.

  • It will soon be illegal to belong to, support, or promote Palestine Action.

  • Violators could face up to 14 years in prison under the UK’s proscription laws.

  • The ban puts Palestine Action in the same legal category as ISIS and al-Qaeda.

Who Is Palestine Action?

Palestine Action “actionists”

To understand the ban, you need to know who’s being banned and why they’re so polarizing.

  • Founded in 2020, it is a UK-based "direct action group" targeting the arms trade with Israel.

  • Their main focus is Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer.

  • Rather than lobbying, they aim to “shut down” arms production through disruptive stunts like occupying factories, scaling buildings, and vandalism.

Political Pressure Mounts

Surprisingly, politicians across the spectrum were pushing hard against them.

  • Right: Nigel Farage and Robert Jenrick both called the group “terrorists.”

  • Left: Labour MP, David Taylor labeled the act “sabotage,” citing national security risks.

  • Experts warn about tolerating “extremist groups” targeting military infrastructure.

Previous Escalations

However, what happened at the Brize Norton incident isn't an isolated event. Palestine Action is also known for other high-profile stunts.

You may have seen some of these in the news:

  • In 2021, they occupied the rooftop of an Elbit factory in Leicester, damaging equipment and refusing to leave for six days.

  • In 2022, they doused the London HQ of Elbit in red paint and smashed windows in broad daylight.

  • In 2023, they forced Elbit to abandon its London office lease after repeated direct actions.

  • In 2024, members allegedly ram-raided an Israeli arms firm using a stolen prison van.

  • In 2025, they smashed glass doors and sprayed red paint on the BBC headquarters in London.

  • In the comments section of their videos, they have many followers cheering them on for what they call acts of "conscience."

  • But they’ve got plenty of critics too, with some people throwing around nicknames like “Unemployment gang.”

Next Steps and Fallout

The government is expected to confirm the ban in Parliament this week.

  • A written statement will trigger votes in both Houses.

  • Counter-terrorism police continue to investigate last week’s break-in.

  • But this also raises the question: How were these “actionists” able to damage highly sensitive military infrastructure without being stopped? Was there help from the inside, or are these bases just that poorly secured?
