US nuke site activity sparks alarm.

Hi Global Recap readers,

We start off today’s newsletter with US activity at its Nevada nuke site. This may well give Putin an excuse to tinker with its own nukes as well.

Also, would you post yourself writing an overtly anti-semitic post on social media? One person did, and she “found out.”👇

🌐 Around the world:

  • US nuke site activity sparks alarm.

  • Italy’s PM Dumps Her Sexist Boyfriend.

  • US Navy Shoots Down Missiles Headed for Israel.

  • State Department Official Quits Over Biden’s Israel Policy.

  • Banker Sacked for Hitler Praise.

Let’s get into today’s news.

Area 12 of the Nevada National Security Site

🚨 US nuke site activity sparks alarm. The US detonated a “high-explosive device” at a nuclear test site in Nevada, just hours after Russia withdrew from a treaty that bans nuclear testing. The US said the experiment was for nonproliferation, while Russia accused the U.S. of violating the treaty.

It was to improve its ability to “detect low-yield nuclear explosions around the world.”

I hope they don’t escalate to actual nukes.

💔 Italy’s PM Dumps Her Sexist Boyfriend. Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy party and the first female prime minister of Italy, has announced her breakup with Andrea Giambruno, a TV journalist who made several offensive and inappropriate remarks on and off air.

Giambruno was caught on tape making sexually suggestive comments to a female colleague and denying the climate crisis. He also sparked controversy last month by suggesting women should “avoid drinking” to prevent rape.

🚀 US Navy Shoots Down Missiles Headed for Israel. US Navy destroyer in the Red Sea intercepted three cruise missiles and eight drones launched by Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen.

The Pentagon said the missiles and drones were potentially targeting Israel, which is already under attack by Hamas.

This is the first US military action to defend Israel in the current crisis and a clear warning to Iran and its proxies.

👋 State Department Official Quits Over Biden’s Israel Policy. Josh Paul, a veteran of the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, resigned in protest of the US support for Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

He said the policy was "shortsighted, destructive, unjust, and contradictory to the very values that we publicly espouse."

He made his announcement on LinkedIn to a supportive group of colleagues.

NY Banker Sacked for Hitler Praise

👩‍💼 Banker Loses Job Over Hitler Comment. Nozima Husainova, a 25-year-old personal banker in New York, was fired by Citibank after she posted a hateful anti-semitic post that appeared to defend Hitler’s actions on Instagram.

🗣️ What She Said. This is the post that took her down:

The hospital bombing she is referring to here is the controversial Gaza hospital bombing that has officials of Israel and Palestine blaming each other for the attack.

And of course, there’s this text that sealed her fate: “No wonder why Hitler wanted to get rid of all of them. 🙂” Honestly, if she thought she could slip that post past her employers, her delusions are off the charts.

👏 How People Reacted. Her comment sparked outrage and calls for her dismissal. Many people contacted Citibank and demanded action.

Citi Group, which owns Citibank, confirmed that she was terminated and condemned her antisemitism.

A spokeswoman for Citi Group

“We terminated the employment of the person who posted the revolting antisemitic comment on social media. We condemn antisemitism and all hate speech and do not tolerate it in our bank.”

In the wake of the uproar, she wiped her LinkedIn profile from the web. But remember, the Internet never forgets. Hit the X post above to access the archived snapshot of her profile.

👉 What Else is Going On? This story comes amid a tense and violent situation in the Middle East, where Israel and Hamas have been exchanging rocket attacks and air strikes. Additionally, as reported above, the US took its first military action in the Israel-Hamas war on Thursday.
