Hi Global Recap readers,

Imagine: It’s your birthday. You open a gift box and it’s filled with grenades. What are your first thoughts?

This is exactly what a Ukrainian general had to face recently. And it became his last.

🌐 Around the world:

  • Issues: Recent nuke slip-up.

  • Malaysia sides with Hamas.

  • Germany agrees to tighten migration rules.

  • US is sending $320 million worth of bomb kits to Israel.

  • Birthday present kills general.

Let’s get into today’s news.

🇮🇱 Issues with Recent Nuke Slip-Up

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova

Israeli PM Netanyahu recently benched Heritage Minister Eliyahu for hinting at possibly nuking Hamas in a radio interview. There may be many reasons for Netanyahu’s decision, but one crucial reason is that Eliyahu essentially admitted to Israel possessing nuclear weapons.

One huge problem with this: Israel never officially acknowledged it. Oops.

“If [Israel has nuclear weapons], where are the International Atomic Energy Agency and international nuclear inspectors?”

🇲🇾 Malaysia Sides with Hamas

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Tuesday that his country will continue to support Hamas, the Palestinian group that controls Gaza and is considered a terrorist organization by the US and the EU.

He rejected the US House of Representatives bill that imposes sanctions on foreign entities that assist Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, or their affiliates. He also affirmed Palestine’s right to defend itself against Israel’s attacks.

“Whatever happened is the legitimate right and struggle of the Palestinian people.”

🚫 Germany Agrees to Tighten Migration Rules

From left to right, Minister President of Lower Saxony Stephan Weil, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Minister President of Hesse Boris Rhein

Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the state governors have finally agreed on new measures to tackle the ever-increasing influx of migrants to Germany, which has become a political headache for the government.

New Measures: Speedier asylum processing, benefit restrictions, and tighter border controls.

Official Stats: Asylum applications year-to-date skyrocketed by 73% this year compared to last year.

💣 US Sending Bomb Kit to Israel

As Israel continues to pound Gaza with air strikes, the US plans to transfer $320 million worth of precision-guided bomb equipment to its ally.

What does it do? The kit can turn “unguided bombs” into “GPS-guided munitions.”

US congressional committees green-lit this support package months before Hamas' October 7 attack on Israel.

Birthday Present Kills

Gennadiy Chastiakov was an adviser to Valerii Zeluzhnyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

🎁 Birthday Gift Gone Wrong. You can’t have a worse birthday than Major Gennadiy Chastiakov, a Ukrainian army adviser. What’s supposed to be a happy day of celebration turned into a tragic scene of explosion.

“An unknown explosive device detonated in one of this gifts.”

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi

🎂 A Tragic Celebration. Chastiakov was celebrating his birthday with his family when he opened a gift bag that contained a box of grenades. He was showing one of them to his son when his son took it and began to turn the ring. According to Ukraine’s interior minister Igor Klymenko, Chastiakov accidentally triggered the grenade when he took it away from his son. The 13-year-old son suffered serious injuries.

🕵️‍♂️ A Mysterious Gift. The police have identified a fellow soldier who gave Chastiakov the gift and confiscated two similar grenades. The incident was initially reported as an assassination.

🤯 A Shocking Twist. Reports suggest that the real grenade that killed the major was hiding among novelty gifts that look like real grenades. If confirmed, it’s a glaring spotlight on military equipment quality, security, and soldier professionalism.

😢 A Devastating Loss. Major Gennadiy Chastiakov, a stalwart companion to Ukraine’s army chief General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, battled Russian forces since their 2022 invasion of Ukraine. A devoted husband and father of four, his legacy lives on.

“[He has been] fully devoting his life to the armed forces of Ukraine and the fight against Russian aggression.”
